Hello. This seems to be the forum where I should say hello, seeing as how I am a newbie. So hello.

I discovered wet shaving completely on accident. I was trying to figure out a way to shave better, since the canned gels and cartridge razors *cough*fusion*cough* seemed to leave my face excessively dry, red, and just overall not too great. And I thought 5 blades was overkill. So I dumbed it down to three blades. Then I thought, "hey! One blade should be sufficient if I do say so myself!". Which I did. Which then lead me to google "how to shave better". And some neat little pointers arose on some mens health sites. But then - oh but then - I read an article on how great shaving with a DE was. I had absolutely no clue what that was. So I read on. And as I read about wet shaving, only two thoughts occured to me. The first was "I need to try this. It will make me a gentleman." and the second was "what the Jesus is a saving brush?". Which I later found out.

So I googled wet shaving stores in Calgary. And one showed up. Rasage Poulin. And he reccomended this forum.

So I have actually been creeping around this site for a few months now trying to get technique tips and guides on which products to buy. So far I have an plastic handled Omega boar brush (which loses about one hair per shave, I should have bought the wood handled), Proraso sensitive skin pre-shave and shaving soap, Proraso green tube shaving cream (I prefer the soap), and the Real Shaving Company moisturizing aftershave. All of which were purchased because the Shopper's Drug Mart about 1km away from my house sells them. That's right. I'm lazy. I also have Bic Disposable Sensitive razors, which I bought because they seemed to have earned some praise here. I do not know why. They dont work great for me. Maybe I'm using the wrong technique?

I am hoping of buying a Merkur Progress, trying a few of the razors to see which one best suits my oh so sensitive skin and possibly get either a Simpsons Chubby 1 in Best Badger or a Taylor Synthetic Brush (I'm not crazy about hurting animals, but the Simpson seems lovely). I am also looking into Col. Ichabod Conk, Trumper, and Fitjar shave soaps. Since they are available at Rasage Poulin. I'm thinking, respectively, amber or almond, rose or violet, and bregneskog fragrances. I haven't smelt any of these aftershaves, or any kind really, but I like the kind of more feminine scents. I'm guessing limes smell like limes and the thought of sandals and wood doesn't sound appealing. Mostly since I have grown up amoungst some most ferocious scented sandals. Almost always from women's feet. I'm also looking into aftershaves :001_smile.

So yeah, I'm pretty much an open book since I am new to this and still a youngin. Any suggestions or anything will be more than welcome! Thanks for reading, I typed a lot without noticing! Much appologies! I'm very glad to finally join!

****Update
I just ordered my Merkur Progress and some blades to try (Derby, Shark, Sharp, and Bic Chrome) to try out. The DE also comes with a storage case and a 10 pack of Merkur blades. We will see how they work cause I haven't heard great stuff about them. I didn't try ordering any Feather blades, cause I figured I shouldn't even try experimenting with a blade with the sharpness of a katana until I know what I'm doing. Lawdy! Look at me rant. I'm so excited to pick it up! Thanks for all the warm welcomes!

Welcome to B&B!

Glad that you decided to jump in. I have sensitive skin also, and good prep resulted in a huge improvement in my shaves. Also, I find that pre-shave oil helped a lot too.

Good luck and enjoy the shaves.

Welcome to the world of B and B! I'm a vegan, but do use badger and boar brushes. Most produce fantastic lather, and will last for years. As far as scent goes, I've tried many, and have fun with most of them. You do have your sights set on a good razor. That and a sample pack of blades will get you going further down the shaving road! Good Luck!
