I got this last week and I can't seem to find the year this was made. Can someone please help me out please? Also is there a specific name for this DE? Thanks.

Good question. I thought initially that it was a Goodwill (http://www.mr-razor.com/Rasierer/Goodwill/1931-1935%20Goodwill.jpg) but it doesn't have the same shape in those notches in the head.

Any markings?

It is a ball end?

I'll watch with interest for responses

Its definitely a Goodwill Razor, I have seen a razor like that before

It was made around the 1930's

I will defer to those more knowledgeable that I but the notches in the head of the razor in the OP are clearly a different shape to those in the pic from Mr Razor's site - did they make the Goodwill's with different designs?

Thanks - still learning!

Yes, many different Goodwill Razors this page:

http://www.mr-razor.com/Rasierer/Goodwill/Goodwill.htm

Also, some great info about the Goodwill here:

Thanks. I looked first at Mr Razor's page but there was only one Goodwill with the reverse studs and the shape of the hole of the cap was different to the pic in the OP - that was what threw me. I'll go and read my Krumholtz next time! :thumbup1:

Thanks to everyone who chimed in. I am very happy I picked this up. I just happened to notice it out of the corner of my eye when I was walking by a vendor's table. I first thought it was a ball tip tech razor but when I asked to look at it I noticed the head was unlike anything I've ever seen. I still haven't seen anything on the various website showing the same head design. It didn't look like this when I first got it but fortunately it was only a 5-10 minute job to polish it up.

That is a beautiful Goodwill you have there! And it's in most excellent condition, too! I am picking mine up at the post office in an hour or so. I suspect mine is exactly like yours based on the photos. All I can see is the bottom of the head plate. The center hole is perfectly circular but there are two nubs poking out of the bottom. I am anxious to see it!

That's cool. Can you post a photo of it here? We can be "Goodwill Brother" lol.

Dear Goowill Brother ,

Mine is indeed a Goodwill exactly like yours. And yours is also in great shape, too! The head type is referred to as a #162. The most common are the #160 where there is very little visible on the outside of the head. But mine was a very lucky snag off the bay. You found yours in the wild, which in my opinion, is far more satisfying! :biggrin1: :thumbup1: Very nice pickup you made. Welcome to the Goodwill club! Here is mine:

I'm so excited to have this in my collection. It's now my most cherish DE. Funny I still haven't shave with it because I've been trying out some recent straight acquisitions. I just had my birthday and so bought 3 straights for my 40th bday - Robert Williams The Purist 8/8", Le Grelot Le Merle Hospital 6/8", Bob Allman 8/8" custom. I love this hobby and the adventure of seeking out great finds like these Goodwills. Good luck to all on your hunt for your next little treasure!
