I'm having a really hard time getting the bottom cap off of a slim I own. I know what you're thinking, yes I've seen the thread about removing it.
Someone posted in another thread that the socket has to fit the inner ring, the crimped cap, without touching the center "hole" that the rod fits into. I've tried all different kinds of sockets, including ones that fit this criteria. I've been hammering with the head on top of a rag. And I've tried depressing it with my finger while the razor is completely closed. For some reason none of the efforts are working. Has anyone successfully done this and experienced a similar problem? I feel like I've been hitting it pretty hard, but it won't seem to come off. Am I missing something or do you think its gunk keeping the cap glued on somehow?
Thanks guys

Not sure if this will help or not.

I hesitate to tell you to pound harder, because I don't know how hard you're pounding on it, and don't know if there may be gunk trapped behind it preventing the cap from moving down the rod. But I do know that the amount of force required to uncrimp that cap is enough to make you shudder at what might happen. It takes a good wallop, hard enough that you'll fear (rightly) that something other than the crimp may fail first.
As for the board search function, it's not very good. Eliminating words like "new" and short strings of numbers which are model numbers. Bah.
To find what you're looking for, you can use google. Type in site:badgerandblade.com followed by the search terms you want.

The Google Custom Search does the same thing and is available right from the search box. Saves a step.

This was the information I was looking for. I've applied enough force with my hand to push it down into the handle, but I think I just need to use more force. I feel like I've been hitting it pretty hard, but I was just hesitant to use more force. The original thread with this trick and subsequent comments made it seem like it just pops off. Which, from my experience, is FAR from the truth.

I just realized it now, I meant post as in after, not as in thread. That was probably a little confusing on my part...
Anyway, thanks amish for the tip. When attacked with excessive force, the cap finally gave way. It was all crusty on the inside. I was afraid of damaging it, but it seems perfectly fine. Now time for the gillette sauna (hot, soapy water)
Thanks again guys for your help
