Ok guys so I aquirred this ugly little gem a bit ago.

141921

I believe its a New improved Brownie. Both ends are loose and it has a rough polish interior on the head, no serial #s. Honestly I may epoxy the razor and PIF it or some such. But...

Has anyone ever done a case restoration(ish) on this type case?

It seems like a really sweet little case and holds almost any one of my 3 piece razors so I thought it might be nice to strip down and redo. Honestly lookin' for any input or experience so feel free to shout it out. TIA!

The razor is an Old Type Pocket Edition. If it has a serial number, it was made before 1921. If not, it dates to between 1921 and 1929.

The Brownie was the same razor ('21-'29) that was marketed at a low entry-level price point and did not come with a case - rather it was sold in a brown cardboard box.

Myself, I have never attempted restoration beyond gentle brushing and cleaning of the fabric lining. I have a couple of these cases in my junk box which would be great candidates for refurbishment.

Proper restoration, IMHO, involves finding materials as close to original as possible, with the end result looking like the day it left the factory. But, refurbishing one with modern-day materials should be fairly easy.

I would gently remove the fabric inside, and clean/sand the empty case. Spray a flat crinkle-finish paint on the outside. Using the removed interior fabric as a pattern, cut new and glue!

Like you said, the case will hold any three-piece Gillette. Your case may not be "original" but it sure as heck will look nice and be functional! :thumbup1:

I would second the recommendation to replace the fabric. Get some pics of what it should like and take them along with the case to a fabric store and see what you can find. The most I've done to a case is pull the fabric out, use masking tape to gently clean it, then re-glue the fabric back in. I do have one with half of the fabric missing and just haven't had a chance to go in and find a replacement piece.

Cool didn't realize it was a Pocket Edition. Mr Razor shows this razor & case and calls it a Brownie. I really wish the razor was in nicer shape as this is the first one I have bought case & all.

I think a resoration is probably out but I will probably try a refurb with modern materials. It opens and closes nice with good spring tension and would make a nice travel case was my thoughts. If I attempt the refurb I will try to keep ya updated on how it goes! Thanks!
