Hello,
I'm just another new guy checking in. I heard of "wet shaving" from the AoM website and thought I'd look into it. After doing some lite research I decided I wanted to jump on into the water. (no pun intended  ) After dropping several hints to my wife about Christmas gifts, she finally got the message for my birthday!

So I now have a new Merkur 38HD Classic Barber Pole Long Safety razor. I picked it out and left about 5 windows up in my browser for my wife to choose one from. Based on the reviews she read, she decided I needed to also get a brush/stand and some shaving soap. So she got me a Colonel Conk Model 129 Super Shave mug. The supplied soap is the "World Famous Glycerine Shave Soap," also from Col. Conk. It's Bayrum - not sure what that means. And she also got me a 100% Pure Badger Bristle Shaving Brush with Rosewood Handle and a stand.

I don't know if this is all good or not but I do know I'm going to have to learn how to use this thing. Thanks for letting me join and I look forward to taking part here.

Welcome to B&B!

You might need to pick up a razor blade sample pack and should be fine.

Welcome to B&B!

+1. This will allow you to experience different types of blades and hopefully find one that is a perfect match for your technique, razor and skin type.

Welcome to Badger and Blade. I think you are going to love this place.

"Bay Rum" is the scent that has been added to your shaving soap. It's an old time barber shop smell.

Glad to have you join us here. Enjoy your shaves.

Thanks for the welcome. I've already had my first shave. One, it takes more time than I thought it would. I'm glad I went ahead and tried it tonight so I'll know how much time I'll need in the morning. Second, It is going to take some time to get used to the angles required to get a close shave, especially around the bottom of my goatee. And finally, the soap smell was fine - but the brush outright stinks! It smells worse than a dirty, wet dog. I hope that goes away.

Thanks again,
rrog

Welcome to B&B, Rick.

If you haven't already done so, take a look at this post (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=71700). It provides an excellent road map to your shaving needs.

Also, take a look at the wikis on this site. The one on lather (http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/index.php/Lathers) is particularly helpful.
