Hello all,

I'm brand new to the forum (about one minute) and to the DE shaving world. I've always used cartridge razors before, and just recently bought a DE razor, a brush, soap, pre-shave oil, and after shave butter. My first shave was a pretty bad experience--it ended up being patchy and my neck was pretty red. After reading a couple of posts on here about lather and mapping out the grain, I just had the best shave of my life. Thanks to all who contribute and I look forward to being part of B&B.

Matt

I'm glad as well. To answer your question, I got the following to start:

-Merkur Futur DE
-Mitchell's Wool Fat soap/dish
-Omega brush
-Riana preshave oil
-Riana aftershave butter

I like everything I got except the aftershave butter. The smell just doesn't do it for me. I do need to get some more blades (forgot to order extras with everything else) and I think I'll try another aftershave. Any suggestions?

The sky's the limit.
There are really good quality After Shaves for very reasonable prices. Take a look at the AS Forum or the AS Review section.
Whether you are an alcohol splash or Balm type of guy, there's bound to be something that fits.
What are you looking for in an AS?
Scent, splash or balm, characteristics etc?

I prefer a balm, with a light scent that's not musky, woodsy, old timey, etc. AOS has a lemon balm that looks pretty good, and DR Harris has some good looking stuff as well.. There's almost too much to look at!

Someone else will have to help you out, I'm an alcohol splash guy. I don't care for the balms as they make me feel "oily".
Lots of great folks here though, so I'm sure it wont be long and someone will step to the plate!

I have an AS milk from SCS. The scent is Dagger but it comes in a variety of scents. It leaves your face feeling very refreshed, but not greasy, dries very quick. http://www.saintcharlesshave.com.

I prefer the milk over a balm because it dries faster and does not leave that :w00t: feeling. You are right there are way to many things to pick from. Try what you think appeals to you. If you hate it, you can always PIF it and try something else.

Here is a WIKI link that may help. http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/index.php/Aftershaves

Thanks everyone. I just pulled the trigger on the AOS Lemon AS Balm and a multipack of blades (Merkur, Personna, Derby, & Feather). I'm needing some relaxing hobbies and making an event out of shaving is one I really enjoy.

Welcome to the B&B! Visit often and enjoy the journey. Certainly sounds like you made some good adjustments after the first shave and you have a solid set up.

Nivea for men, it has a very light sent to it. I guess it would fall under musky but I find it fades fairly quickly, is cheap, and widely available.
