In one of Mantic's videos he mentioned that MWF contains something that can cause ingrowns for some people.

It was ironic that I watched this video today because I I shaved just a day ago and had a few ingrowns when I rarely have any. I am not going to attribute it to the soap right away, as I was very impressed by the lather and am in no way an expert shaver yet, but I just wanted to ask, has anyone had experience with this before?

Im going to have a hard time believing this. How would a soap cause ingrown hairs? MWF, in my experience, is one of the best for the skin, i've used.

You'll have to go to time 3:15 of the video. He talks about one of the ingredients used.
From what I understand there are also things you can put on that will also prevent ingrowns. I wish I knew the science more, and I think that is a big reason I am trying to get some kind of feel for what others think.

Its the lanolin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lanolin), a wax extracted from the sheep's wool (known around here as wool fat).
There are people that are sensitive to lanolin, and other that are allergic to it. If that's your case, you should not use MWF, it may caus you irritation.
If that is not you case, you can use MWF safely, and any ingrowns that you'll have will most probably be caused by other factor than the soap (technique being the most probable).

I think Mantic's message was to avoid products containing lanolin if you find that they result in more ingrowns than you normally get.
My other comment on that video is that I find it unnecessary to soak the puck with any soap, including MWF. Maybe that's a point where YMMV.

Definitely! I lather MWF much easier (and better) if I soak the puck! But hey, YMMV. :001_smile

+1 using a shave soap alone will not give you ingrown hairs. it's when you take the razor too the skin that the issues start to arise. Shave soap is there for protection, slickness and glide.
Bollocks.
If anything, MWF will keep you from getting ingrowns.

The Lanolin in MWF wages war against my skin and usually wins the battle, so i have only used MWF twice and then threw it out. But the lanolin may well cause more ingrown hairs if used for a while or if your skin doesn't like lanolin...there are varying degrees of how badly it affects people skin if at all, then again it may just be coincidence.

Another thing you can try is a complexion brush. It is stiffer than your shaving brush and you can use your shaving soap with it. Just hand lather onto your face and then gently massage your face with the complexion brush. It'll help lift the hairs. You can do this before your shave and it'll help soften the beard too. I've seen them on EBay.... just search "Complexion Brush"... HTH
