I have three for the list:
EverReady 150 Red/White. 18mm Best set at 42mm. It could have taken a 20mm knot. My first restore of my very first brush purchased by my Dad before I headed off to college in 1974.

Second was an EverReady 836A. 20mm Finest Badger set at 45mm.

And third an EverReady 100 Green/Cream. 20 mm Finest Fan Badger set at 45mm.

Before or after we restore them? I've got one that I haven't started yet.
It'll take me a bit of time before I do start it.
It sounds to me like you want the restored ones.

For the vintage brushes I feel the handles are the most important...to show people what it is like, but then again...we all like brush porn

Ok, I stink at taking pictures, but here's a few that I haven't restored yet.
I'll post again when I have them restored and learn how to use a camera.
Not pictured is an Ever Ready 200 and a nice Erskine that need a severe cleaning.
1. Rooney with original knot (nice butterscotch goodness)
2. Vulfix with original knot. You don't see too many of these around.
3. Ever Ready 100 with original knot.

Bought an older Surrey brush as a package with an old colgate shave stick.
Handle length-52mm
Knot hole size-just a tad under 24mm
No markings on handle only a sticker on the bottom of handle.
Handle shell is hollow but appears epoxy filled as original.
Appeared to be boar hair but not sure due to bristle wear.

I bought these almost a year ago. All of the brushes have the original box and the one has the original instructions.
The Pall Mall 530 is from the 40's I believe and it is in Mint condition. No sign of use at all. The badger hair is extremely soft, something I have never felt before. I have never seen another one like it.
The Ever-Ready 500 is also in great condition. The bristles show some sign of aging but this one also has no sign of use either. This is the only one with this type of handle that I have seen.
The Ever-Ready 525 is the worst out of the bunch but it is still a nice example.

So that's where all the green handled brushes have gone.
I hate you. :blink:
Here is an Ever Ready I just got.
Model = 59
Knot = 19mm
Length = 92mm
Handle = 46mm
Loft = 46mm
It looks like the original knot so the loft measurements are probably short of the original size.
I was hoping that it was a bakelite for restoring, but alas it failed the test.
The writing on the handle is too faint to show in the photo.
It's strange how the base of the handle has the green swirls whereas the rest of the handle is plain. I am thinking that it might unscrew but I don't think I will try to do that.
The 600 is in almost mint condition, the picture doesnt do it justice. It has no noticeable scratches on it..
Son-of-a... I was wondering who got that thing. Looked tasty.
Regards.

Gentlemen..... I am sorry I have been remiss in getting these into the compendium... please keep posting, will get at it later in the week I hope
This says Ever Ready on the bottom of the brush, but there are no model numbers that I am sure of.
Under intense light, I can just make out what looks like a 4, but it could be my imagination seeing something in the scratches.
The brush holder has no markings at all.
Height = 92mm
Handle = 42mm
Loft = 50mm
Knot = 20mm

Here is my first attempt at brush restoration. I got two EverReady 150's (along with a couple Super Speeds) from the Bay. They weren't in too bad of shape, but they needed cleaning and new knots.
145315
After removing the old knots and ordering from TGN (I decided I wanted to try a boar brush, so I ordered a UK-20mm Cream Boar for the black and cream handle and a 20mm Silvertip Badger Hair Knot for the red and cream), I polished the handles. After epoxying the knots, here are the final results.
These are pre-bloom as I just finished them:
145316
Edit: I forgot the measurements:
Black and cream: original ... handle 67mm, knot 52mm X 20mm, overall 119mm
restored ... handle 67mm, knot 55mm X 20mm, overall 122mm
Red and cream: original ... handle 53mm, knot 50mm X 20mm, overall 103mm
restored ... handle 53mm, knot 52mm X 20mm, overall 105mm

This is my first practice restore, I stole the knot out of my wilkinson sword boar brush- got the brush off of ebay looking so gross that even after all this work im still not sure if ill use it :001_unsur
Notice the chrome trim ring around the knot, im pretty happy with how this turned out.

That's a beauty EPD, and I insist that you give it a try or, failing that, forward it to me and I will put him through his paces. :001_rolle

Century green top, cream bottom brush. Front of the brush reads, "Century, Set in rubber, sterilized, made in the USA." Back of the brush reads, "Pure Bristle". Nothing is written on the bottom. The handle is hollow. The handle feels right in my hand and is impressively ergonomic.
Handle height: 53 mm
Handle base width: 30 mm
Bore width: 20mm

Thanks guys!! The razor was in very nice shape. It needed a cleaning and a polish and of course sanitizing. I am not a great photographer but I will take some shots. My first step is to remove the old knot measure and them mail out for a new knot......correct? I hope i do the handle justice. I have the feeling it won't be my last too!!

Thank you. I need to cut and measure then order and install. I hope the opening isn't an odd size. I think I will go with Golden Nibs.

Finished my first brush!! It was a learning experience as you can hopefully see. The brush works nicely but cosmetically I will have to do some tweaking when I have the time to make the finish appear better. The new knot is a 18mm finest from golden nibs
What I learned.
1) get the knot before I start the removal of epoxy and old knot
2) small handles do not allow me to sink a knot very far
3) I need to use less epoxy. Use of extra epoxy is related to point 2
Comparison to my tweezerman, the only other brush I have.
1) The brush is softer
2) the brush holds soap inside the hairs instead of the soap falling off the brush
3) I seemed to need more initial soap product( TOB sandalwood) to get lather. Not sure if that is a function of breaking in or quality
Finally I learned a lot . Next time will be better!!:wink2:

Ever-Ready 150 with a 20mm x 67mm UK bristle boar knot from TGN. The knot is set at 60mm. This has become one of my favourite brushes in my rotation. The tips are very soft and it has good backbone. Not as floppy as my Omega 48.

I like the black and white. Very classy. Just bought a old clear acrylic on ebay. Can't wait to remove the old knot and throw in a new one.

Here is an Ever-Ready 200T that my brother helped me restore last night. It has a huge 24mm boar knot in it.
Cant wait to start breaking it in!

this is the same brush i just bought. yours looks pretty nice and i wonder if you had to bore open the handle for the knot

In your picture they certainly do look identical.
My F40 and 200T are different near the top, the angle at the top of the handle is steeper and longer in one. I can't remember which. I'll try and get a photo in a minute.
Its the f40 that is steeper and longer. i have a black f40 and a blue 200T. you should check out my brush on page 5. its the 200T with a 24mm knot. i was sick of having a floppy brush:lol1:

yeah i did, normally i think it would take a 20mm or 22mm knot after just grinding out the old epoxy. So i just went ahead and made it a 24 since there is definitely enough material there for it. i think it looks great with the larger knot.

Just purchased a black and white and a acrylic everready also. After my initial try at restoration(see above) I have now switched to a CLEAR marine epoxy. Lesson learned.
mr rogers
11-26-2011, 11:45 PM
Is that marine epoxy a quick set epoxy? How expensive does it run? The stuff i used worked great and it didn't take a lot to complete the whole restoration.
it was the LOCtite 5-minute quick set type.

Bone has a very distinctive smell when sanded, it's a rather acrid smell. If you're not sure, you could always file a bit at a dog bone (one that's actual bone, not rawhide) for a reference smell. It might be an odd, rather silly suggestion, but it might help you determine whether or not the material in question is bone or another substance.
