So its January first 2011, fellow pipe smokers I invite you to have a bowl of G.L. Pease this month and share your thoughts and experiences on any of his blends here. Enjoy!

Nothing open at the moment, but I do have a Christmas gift certificate to use up. I'm in, but I'll be a week or so.

Funny you should start this thread today, I gave Barbary Coast a second chance yesterday. This was not a favorite of mine fresh out of the tin, it's been sitting for about a year now. Yesterdays bowl in a small Dunhill prince was very pleasant, the harshness that I remembered was gone and I could really pick up a variety of flavors. I may order a couple of more tins to let age if that is going to be the result. Certainly an enjoyable smoke.

Pease tobaccos are a staple in my cellar. Haddo's Delight is my favorite. Smoking a bowl right now.:001_smile

I'm on a hunt for some Area 51, but haven't found any yet. Haddo's is a staple of mine also. :thumbup1:

I have 3 tins open (Laurel Heights, Embarcadero, and Westminster) and 6 more unopened. Maybe I'll open a new one for this month.

I enjoy Pease blends. I just finished up a bit of Westminster earlier.

Is anyone else doing the pee pee dance waiting for Jackknife Plug (http://glpease.com/BriarAndLeaf/?p=85) to be released? I can barely stand it.

I gave them a quick call a little while ago. C&D confirms that there's plenty more and that they're shipping it on Monday (CONUS so no customs issues). They'll probably be in stock by this time next week but they'll have a much larger order coming.

I really like Haddo's Delight, and I'm planning to pick up a tin of Barbary Coast tomorrow to give it a shot.

 I stand corrected, but I was operating from recall- If its the one I'm thinking of its a limerick having a bit of fun with those writing haiku.

My best experience w/pure Virginias was with Union Square. Ended up purchasing a few tins and found they were much better after aging at least 6 months.
It was a completely different (and much better smoke) after waiting a while.
It is one of my go-to tobaccos.

You have acquired a level of patience beyond mine!!
We'll be wanting a full review, down to plug density and ease of preparation.
You might want to breakout your thesaurus.:a53:

I am smoking my first bowl of this in my 999 spigot. There was a smaller 1/2 inch square in my tin along with the main plug that I cut up with a razor blade for this bowl.
My first impression of this tobacco is that Hal O' the Wynd and Union Square had a bipolar love child. It starts out very bright, but then you taste the dark earthy flavors, and then every puff is a subtle mix of the two except once every couple puffs you get a really spicy flavor and then it changes again. I am glad that I was able to snag multiple tins because I am going to be smoking a lot of Jackknife.
Greg, I don't know how you did this, but you have a winner. Well done sir.

Thanks for posting!!
What were your impressions of strength and body? I get a malty sweetness that sort of wafts in and out in many dark plugs, Is this similar?
Commander Quan
01-14-2011, 11:15 AM
It is an above average strength tobacco for sure, and there was some sweetness that would come and go alternating with the some pretty spicy flavors, but I think that was from the lighter virginas.

 That was the intent. :thumbup1:
I can't tell you how much it hurt my head to think up a word to rhyme with Haddo.

A local B&M had some jacknife plug in stock, so I grabbed it. It was on the expensive side, but it went to help out a local B&M. I usually buy my bulks there, as it isn't much more expensive than I can get online. I think I may order another tin or 2 online.
