What would be your three top choices?

1. Back when it was available, Creed recently sold the Vintage Tabarome for $405 in one of their 1.7 oz leather wrapped atomizers. This was top of my list at the time due to scarcity, but also in top 3 just based on scent alone.
2. Tom Ford Tuscan Leather. The 2.5 oz is $260. It is probably my current favorite scent.
3. Not really sure. Creed Windsor is probably in my top few slots (mainly because the wife and I both love it, which is as rare as the Hope diamond....), but it is over the budget for buying a full flacon. Within budget, I would have to go with Odori Tabacco. The most perfect rendition of pipe tobacco in a bottle with superb longevity and projection. This one is at Lucky Scent for $210. A must own.
At this price point, I would be curious to try Amouage Tribute Attar. I haven't tried it myself. I know others on this board own/have tried it.

Out of curiosity, why on earth would you spend all 400 on one fragrance?
For 400 you can get a whole lot of quality smell, even paying retail and not looking terribly hard.

BIG IF:
1. Creed Vintage Tabarome
2. Patou pour un homme prive
3. Creed Windsor
Saraconno
12-20-2010, 09:13 AM
1. D+G The One
2. Chanel Egoiste
3. Pure Nautica
Those wouldn't set me back as much as $400, but they're on top of my "want" list.

Montale - Black Aoud
Divine - L'homme Sage
By Kilian - Back To Black
A little over but I'd happily make up the difference

I guess a better title would have been what top of the line products can a get for $ 400.
I coud get 40 items from Rite Aid but I was/am looking for something a little different.
The Montale & Creed have gotten my attention. Plus I thnk's it very nice that the ladies in my company are willing/wanting to treat me nice this Christmas. No layoffs, no cuts in benefits and Cristmass bonuses were really appreciated and deserved in this tough year!

I first had the same thought as Pulley, but before I read your response above, I wondered if you were throwing out a hypothetical "What's the most expensive fragrance you would get if money were no object" type question. Thanks for clarifying that this is a real question with a real application and an immediate need that you have. How nice of your people to be willing to treat you to something you would really like for Christmas. I'm going to have to give this some more thought, as I've never looked very closely at $400 fragrances. Hopefully, in the mean time, others who are more familiar will offer some more helpful suggestions.

Im sure i would look to Amaouge first. Although the Montales are much less expensive, they sure are excellent.

$250 - Tom Ford Tuscan Leather
$ 65 - ANGEL MEN PURE MALT by Thierry Mugler

Not sure i understand the question, even now. is it more like, what handful of top scents could I get for $400, on somewhat of a splurge?
If I were looking for one scent, i probably would look toward the Amouages, too, although I have not run into one that was a favorite scent to me yet.
If I were going for quantity, a flacon some some Creed, I suppose. Windsor was $405, if I recall.
I would not pay full list price for Creed anything outside of the truly rare stuff.
Montale orderred direct is not so expensive, more like $120 for 100 ml plus a 20 ml travel vial. If I did not have some Montales, they would be on my list.
If I were starting fresh, and wanted to spend the bucks, I would get something from Pens, something from C&S, and something from Montale. At retail prices for the first two and buying Montale direct, that would be close to $400. Buy the Pens from the UK from someone buying from the Pens discount store and you would have a little more leeway. Once in awhile there is a good deal from a legit source on C&S on say EBay, but not too often.

If money were no object?
1. probably real Mysore sandalwood oil, or
2. something Amouage, maybe Dia man
3. Serge Lutens Fille en Aiguilles or Chene edp. Or
4. Axe Fist-Bumper*

I'd get a pair of Gucci loafers.
If it had to be a frag, I'd say Guerlain Derby, Chanel Sycomore or Tom Ford Tuscan Leather. You'll still have change to apply to those shoes.

You are going to limit my dream purchases to $400? I guess that means no Oriscent ouds or Arabian Oud Prince Diamini. :blushing:
I would probably blow the bundle in one house: Amouage.
1. Amouage Tribute
2. Amouage Homage
3. Amouage Jubilation XXV or Dia
Now I will go back to my L'Occitane. :001_rolle

2. Chanel Egoiste
3. Pure Nautica

Well, problem is it's a little bit TOO down-low. Can't find the damned stuff anywhere. Always Platinum this and Platinum that. Sales assistants get confused when I walk away muttering after asking for the original.

I'd get $100 worth (their minimum order) of Oudimentary's KSSS oud oil and spend the rest on as big a decant of original batch of Windsor I could find :)

Wow, a vote from you, Igor1, for Windsor, rather than for some rare eastern oil. That is a heck of an endorsement for Windor in my book!
I think I could go for some true, vintage Mysore sandalwood oil, as someone else mentioned. Has to be vintage though. I do not want there to be a chance of anyone cutting down a Mysore tree in 2010 to make a scent of any kind, even if it were government sanctioned to do so.

Are you kidding me? Windsor has all but taken over my rotation, I wear it at least 3 days a week :blushing:
I like it enough to have picked up a second flacon (sadly, from the newer batch) just in case Creed's promise to never release any more holds true. The rose in Windsor (which appears/disappears in a constant peekaboo game) is my favourite aspect of this frag. I am going to attempt boosting it with a bit of pure Rosa Alba essential oil that I have. It's the most full-bodied and sensual rose I've ever tried which also doesn't have loud top notes - should work very well with Windsor without clashing with the eucalyptus/lime of the original Windsor. Worked out the quantities and the method after consulting someone who has good experience with creating his own natural attar blends, hope it works out well!
I also considered including Vintage Mysore Sandalwood in my post, but didn't because these don't usually have the greatest projection when applied by themselves. Some oils have more presence than others but generally speaking they will give you a light personal aura. Still very enjoyable but I only wear them to satisfy the occasional pure sandalwood craving.

I'd buy a few things.
First, I really want Diptyque's L'Ombre dans L'eau, which would run me around $90 for a bottle.
Secondly, I'd really like Creed's EROLFA for this summer, the 4 ouncer, which'll put me at about $370
Thirdly, I'm going to need another bottle of Agua Lavanda Puig in a few months. might as well stock up on the 7 oz original in the glass bottle, great stuff!

Funny - I was just thinking this morning that I wanted to get some of that for next summer as well.
If you have $400 to throw around, how about a $365 flacons of Creed Selection Verte? Discontinued and soon to be a collector's item, I understand, so you might even be able to recoup your investment if you end up not liking it.

I didn't know that, thanks for the tip! I'm planning on going to the Creed Boutique in NY City sometime next spring, just so that I can (a) see the place and sample everything, and (b) just once in my life know without any doubt that what I bought is the real thing!
I've been trying to lighten up on my stance regarding aquatics this year. My idea was to get two - one midshelf and one higher end niche. I picked up Incense Ultramarine by Givenchy for the first, and am hoping to like EROLFA enough to make that one the second. Something tells me I will.

That, and Bond No. 9 "Central Park" is on the top of my wish list.

Maybe. For good oud, I'd say it starts at about $250/bottle & goes up from there. Depending upon what you buy, it can go WAY up, unfortunately.

One of my nieces works for a big advertising agency. They had some kind of an event going on with Beckham. One of her friends complimented him on the fragrance that he was wearing--asked him if it was his own range. He laughed and said no, it's Creed's Erolfa.

Beckham doesn't even wear his own stuff. Why doesn't this surprise me though? :glare:
EROLFA doesn't get celeb shout-outs like Silver Mountain Water does, so that's kind of interesting.
