I am thinking of getting engraved pens for me Niece and three Nephews. One is in Boston College, two will be starting college next year and the youngest will be a year after. They are all excellent students and I was thinking of giving them a pen with engraving on it.

I'm looking for a quality pen in the 30-40 dollar range. I don't want to get them anything to expensive for fear they will have it stolen in their dorm rooms.

I'm not sure if I should get roller ball or gel ink. Fountains are not wanted, they are to young to appreciate and make full use of one. Ball point's I'm not a big fan of either but if someone can recommend a quality ball point I wouldn't be opposed to it.

Anyone know where I can find something like this?

Cross pens always look nice.
I love my Townsend models, but I think the Century series is more classic.
Remember, whatever you do buy, they will need to find ink for it.
I'd stay away from something obscure.
Choose a pen that they can find refills at a big office supply chain.

I have a Montblanc rollerball and the last place to sell the refills went out of business long ago. I have to order them now. not fun.

What about a Space Pen?

Endlessly useful, and small enough to carry anywhere. It may be more practical than you're thinking, but it looks like engraving is available.

Note: I've never used that site, google found it for me.

Rudy doesn't do just brushes, he does pens (http://www.ultimatependesigns.com/OrderInfo.html) too.

Love these. I have them stashed througout the car and house, however its not formal/classy enough for a gift to my godchildren.

If they aren't heavily into handwriting, to be honest, I would either just get whatever the engraving place had on hand in your price range or get a nice Parker ballpoint with some gel refills (their blue is very pretty and not unlike the vintage Parker blue).

The sheer VOLUME of writing that I did at university was one reason why I used a fountain pen to take all my lecture-notes.

A ballpoint pen is useless for that. So forget about buying one of those.

A rollerball pen is the middle-road between the two. Smooth, but low-maintenance. If I might ask, how old are your nephews and niece? I know people who are in junior-school who love fountain pens (I know, I used to be one of them). But fountain pens are an acquired taste. Let THEM decide if they want one. No point in wasting money.
