Cool Anthony -The Frugal wetshaver

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let me introduce myself - I'm new to wet shave but a DE returnee ( Vietnam era ) since then barbsol can + atra razor Found wet by accident After a vey active life Electical engineering manager, pop warner football coach+ little LeagueBaseball & Basketball Commissioner now a proud grandfather of three. I survived a heart attack, tripple bypass and subsequent stroke leaving me without the use of my left side (arm hand & leg). I have Found different tricks to regain some mobility. That is how I found wet shave. On ebay I found a new Omega " badger " brush I thougth I could use to apply Gilette Shaving Gel. I recieved the Brush Which I now believe is a Boar Bristle which I found to be very comfortable.I then found manic59 on youtube with the How-tos' videos. I have a thin easy beard so I thought that I could use most anything on my face ie: I purchased Williams mug soap a resin mug. a merkur three piece longhandle DE razor and a 100ct pack of Derby blades. the first problem I had was with one usable hand I had a hard time with the three piece merkur I purchased a Parker 98r butterfly razor which i've had great success with. I then purchased a vie-long Horsehair brush that i found to be excellent. Since thenn I have purchased a Parker Silvertip(Amazon $59.99)and An EJ english handmade medium Best Bad Brush.
I usded the silvertip this AM Great! I can say that I'm a master lathermen with the addition of a ceramic lathering bowl I 've made great "whip cream " lather. even using the original Omega Brush ' Ican truly say I missed out on at least 25 years of absolute luxury I hate to leave the bathroom I 'm wating on delivery of a 12 pack of VDH and a Merker vision DE.
Shower & Shave each morning: shave method as described by How to make great lather from a soap--- Tutorial authored by Jim of B&B

Welcome, I only use one of my badger brushes when I feel guilty about having bought them, I far prefer boar and have had good luck with horse hair.
One great thing about the VDH soap is that it is micro-waveable and while it cools you can add you favorite aftershave or menthol crystals

glad you are here,

Anthony:
Welcome to the B & B :shaving: and it sounds like you're off to a great start, but please do take your time because Wet-Shaving is a 'journey' and not a race (oh by the way..I love my Merkurs 23C & 38C).

And yes...this Forum has the knowledge, ideas, and alround 'know-how' to assist in your Wet-Shaving experience. In a nut-shell...your 'gonna' love it here :w00t:

Also, once you get time....please tell all of us a little about yourself in the Hall of Fame sub-forum :biggrin1:

Sound like you're off to a great start.
I have not experienced horse hair shaving brushes before.
I wonder how it compares to badger and boar brushes.

Welcome to B&B. Like you, I recently returned to DE shaving after getting started in the Air Force (1968). It's really been a pleasure.
