I bought a brick of Klar a while ago from Bullgoose but due to a lack of an appropriate container I never took it out of its original packaging.
I tried some Klar today for the first time. I've got to say that I was blown away by the results! Right up there with the best , including the champ Tabac, and The Fat! Better cushion and glide than Cella, IMHO! If you haven't tried it don't deprive yourself of this world class shaving soap!

My order arrived in usual record time following personal contact with Phil which is always a pleasure. "The Year of Harris" gets a headstart! Phil tosses in some nice things that you never ordered which is his Gentlemanly practice. I'm pleased as I always am having traded with Mr. Huntsinger. Bravo Phil!

Nice haul Mike.

I too find myself going more and more to DR Harris products. A little more money but truly a quality product.

Do report back with how the Harris shampoo works out. I can't say I've ever seen a paste-form shampoo before and it seems vaguely interesting in a gimmicky way to me. If it works well, perhaps I'll throw one into my next order.

Items added this week include:

* Portman Square Tallow Shaving Cream Soap (http://www.bullgooseshaving.net/posqnhishcrs.html) (Notting Hill Scent)

* Gift Certificates ($25, $50, and $100) (http://www.bullgooseshaving.net/shac.html)

A note about Portman Square. Portman Square is my new house brand and it is named after a street in London's famed "shaving district". Right now, I only offer the cream soap and only offer that in one scent -Notting Hill (a blend of lavender and cedar wood essential oils with a leathery earthiness). I have plans to offer Portman Square Tallow shaving soaps in the near future.

any thoughts on potential scents for the soaps?

I am still toying with a few ideas. I will definitely offer the soap in the "Notting Hill" scent which is a lavender and cedarwood blend but am not sure of a 2nd scent yet. My plan though is to limit the scent options to at most three scents.

Me too. I'm hoping for an El Gordo Toro Ganso. :thumbup:

+1, I just got El Toro Ganso. The feel is nice. I still need to break it in and get the funk out. It looks pretty good so far, but I'm already thinking a touch bigger would be nicer.

Let me tell you about the shipping. I ordered it Saturday. Phil sent me an email and said he would get it out today and it should arrive Monday, if not Tuesday. I was thinking 'Yeah, right. He's shipping from CA, I'm in NC, no way it gets here Monday and it's probably not going to get here Tuesday either.' I don't know how but it got here Monday. I feel like I'm in a looney toon where I can put my order in and go out to the mailbox and wait for it to arrive.

That is THE most under-rated brush. My guess it has the softest tips of all your brushes, am I right?

That is THE most under-rated brush. My guess it has the softest tips of all your brushes, am I right?

I think it will end up being the softest tips. Yesterday when I excitedly pulled it out of the box and lathered it on my face right away, it was not the softest and it was a bit funky to say the least. I have since lathered it many times in my scuttle with some MB Marauders Citrus to get the funk out. Today, I lathered it up, applied it to my face and it is just about perfect. I have to give the edge to my SR3722. After it fully breaks in, I expect it to have the softest tips and yet still have good backbone so it is not a mop. For the price, it really can't be beat.

A few more items have trickled in this week including:

* Alpa 378 Aftershave Splash (http://www.bullgooseshaving.net/al378afsp50m.html) from the Czech Republic. This is a great everyday aftershave that is refreshing and healing. The scent is best described as chypre (citrus top-notes, a floral middle, and a mossy base-note) and it has added menthol and glycerin.

* Mitchell's Wool Fat Bath Soap (http://www.bullgooseshaving.net/miorwofattab.html)

In addition, I have put the remaining two band Emperor 2 and Emperor 3 brushes on clearance. :w00t:

My first attempt at a shaving stick (http://www.bullgooseshaving.net/posqnohishst.html)did not turn out as planned. The soap, a tallow with lanolin formula, turned out great and it delivers a great shave. Unfortunately, the scent did not turn out as planned. My loss is your gain...the shave sticks went straight to clearance and at $5.50 a stick, they are a very good value.

To answer the inevitable question on the scent....it is a lavender/cedarwood blend but is much different than the scent of the Portman Square cream soap. The scent is muted and should not offend but is heavier on the cedar.

The scent is both sophisticated and refined. Cedarwood, Spruce and Oakmoss provide the warm rich body while Sage, Verbena, Rosemary, Lavender and Artemisia provide the volatile top notes.

Spirits of wine? Real sandalwood is a major plus but how does "spirits of wine" play into the scent, Phil?

The scent is a bit hard to describe. By "spirit of wine", Meehan means wine that has been distilled. I also get the sense that this cologne is aged in oak barrels like a whiskey or cognac but I do not know that for a fact and I could be completely wrong. The scent is definitely sandalwood with a hint of oak and a healthy dose of Cognac (to my nose at least). The only two ingredients in this cologne are sandalwood oil and distilled wine (i.e., Cognac or Brandy).

I am happy to announce the release of Portman Square "Collier Row" Shaving Cream Soap (http://www.bullgooseshaving.net/posqcorowcrs.html). The Collier Row scent is a very pleasant and sophisticated citrus scent that combines Grapefruit, Orange and May Chang essential oils with a very light touch of cedar.

The cream soap contains tallow and produces a very rich and creamy lather. A little goes a long way.
