Well, being as I received 8.8 oz of Squadron Leader yesterday, it has been all SL all the time. I think I am going to get some St James Flake in the next order for some variety.

MacBaren Navy Flake in the Brebbia ninja tomato. First try for the ninja, it might be my best smoking pipe! Drilled properly, easy to pass a pipe cleaner, stayed nice and cool (likely due to my improving puff style) and just generally feels to be a great size. Sure is a nice day to get some reading done in the yard.

I just took a look at mine, it does appear to be about an approx. 1/8" (3mm) I haven't had any issues with the draw though.

I had some Just For Him - Longbottom Leaf the day before yesterday in my Comoy's Sandblast Bulldog 398. This is one of the few times so far I enjoyed a Va as much as I did. Normally I struggle to not get the pipe too hot or wet, or I just get tongue bite. But this smoke was cool & tasted great down to the last ash. Perhaps I just smoked slower than usual. Maybe it was the ribbon cut of the tobacco. I have to wonder if the vanilla casing didn't give me more of the flavor I wanted up front thus preventing me from trying to "suck the flavor" out of the Va leaves.

Late last night I appropriated smoked some Nocturne by McCelland in my Nording Sandblast Freehand. I haven't smoked this in awhile since I only have a couple bowls worth left & the local B&M has been saying they ordered more in for a couple months now. I was happy to find I still really liked this blend so I would like to get more of it. I guess I'll give them another month or so then I'll just order it from pipesandcigars.com

Even though I don't follow sports, I just had to celebrate the Kings finally taking the Stanley Cup (where WAS the New Jersey goalie on goal #5?)

Pipes and Cigars "Byzantium" in a very special pipe....
Just got it Saturday, SWMBO's gift for our 25th anniversary.

It's smaller than I expected... really more of a mimi-meer, but an extension was added to the stem to put it at a 6" or better length.

But it's a nice smoker, and really works well for smoking here at home where I'm relegated to standing on the front porch or walking around the complex... my larger "90-minute" bowls don't work so well for that.

So here it is... the "Dragon Meer"
I adjusted the contrast to show the dragon a bit better....

Tonight I'm having some Boswell's Magnum Blend in my late grandfather-in-law's Custombilt Original 663. The tobacco (seemingly opposite the name) is a nice mild English. This pipe has a large bowl & is the best smoker of his collection. I think the shape is somewhere between an apple & a pot, but I'm no expert. Does anybody know anything about this brand?

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-CgivfwYKRZI/T9gSHizhHBI/AAAAAAAAGj8/2bJW_1il3EM/s800/20120612_230651.jpg

Also, the pipe had one major flaw when I got it:

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-DC-vI-usHtU/T9gPtQlX7TI/AAAAAAAAGjE/2xHmo_gWO6I/s640/20120612_225607.jpg

Looks like he was either a major clincher or somebody just mishandled it. I'm guessing the latter.

Any recommendations on who would be best suited to fab a new stem? I like would the new one to be close to the original bend & shape with a fishtail, but I am open to other colors & materials.

Yeah, I recommend this guy http://www.nightowlpipeworks.com/home/index.html, He re-stemmed my Jobey and did an excellent job, he takes his time and does it right, I don't recommend Tim West, I had a bad experience with a re-stem he did.

Last night I enjoyed a bowl of Butternut Burley in my Tinsky LE. It was very pleasant. Even with my bad puffing habits, this tobacco burned tongue bite free. On the other hand, I did have to relight many many times, despite the reviews I read on Smokingpipes. I guess I still haven't figured it out yet.
It left me calm, cool, and satisfied and the flavor did not linger in my mouth too long. I really enjoyed it!

PSLNF (Peter Stokkebye Luxury Navy Flake) from 2007 in a Savanelli something or other. It is a full bent, yet the bowl looks like a tall bulldog shape. I never smoked it much when I had my full collection, but now I am down to just a very few pipes so I thought I would give it a shot and it smokes quite well even in spite of a horrible repair job done by the previous owner.

That's nice! Did you make the stand yourself?

On-topic, just finished a bowl of Troost Special Cavendish in my Big Ben Dusk 541. Still trying to learn the art of pipe-smoking, I went a bit to fast so it burned a little hot at the end. Better luck next time I guess.

And for those interested in the modified cobs I showed a pic of the other day, here's another: Doug (The Cobb Modifier) is a great guy; I've done lots of business with him and whole-heartedly endorse both the man and his products. He has a website on Etsy (http://www.etsy.com/shop/cobcobbler). If there is anything you want specifically but don't see on the website, just email Doug and he will make it for you (nowewarmer, lovat, canadian, bent, straight, any bowl....).

He brought me a pack of his favourite, Georgetown Tobacco Shenandoah.

Paired with the B&B BL LE Tinsky? Absolutely delightful on a beautiful summer night! Strong recommendation!

The weather has yet to effect my preference of tobacco, but about 85% of what I smoke is Latakia based or Balkan anyway :biggrin1:.

The weather has yet to effect my preference of tobacco, but about 85% of what I smoke is Latakia based or Balkan anyway :biggrin1:.Same here BB. However my smoking location is greatly affected by the weather. I'll go on a run when it's 90 & 80% humidity outside, but when it's time to relax with a pipe the last thing I want to do is sweat.

Last week I tried a sample of Frog Morton. I knew it was supposed to be be smooth & fairly mild overall; & I certainly found that to be true. But I was pleasantly surprised that it had enough Latakia to keep me interested. So I bit the bullet & bought a 100g tin from my local B&M. I figure 19-something w/ tax was a decent enough price .

Here is a shot from the night-before-last of my first smoke from this tin with my Savinelli Sistina Rustic Poker.

I just set out a gram or so of SG Chocolate Flake for a smoke in my Pete Shannon 999. It's the last of a sample I've had & I was kinda saving it in hopes I would find more in a B&M. So far no such luck, so I will savor this smaller bowl & hopefully talk SWMBO into a online order before too long. :001_unsur
