Hi,
I've seen a few threads that mention a scuttle and I think I know what they look like (sort of like a bowl but with some other features) but I don't how to use one.
I assume they are used for creating lather. Are there any threads out there that explain this?
Thanks

Hello there, wildcard. You can find what you're looking for here in the Wiki (http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/index.php/Scuttle). I haven't made the plunge into one of these lather-warmers yet.

The scuttle is one of those wet-shaving items that once you discover it, you wonder how you ever did without it.
I have the Moss Scuttle (large) and would never consider shaving again without it.

Cool, thanks for the replies.
I've just been using a regular bowl to create lather and then letting it float around in a sink full of hot water. This keeps the lather/brush warm but after I do a pass or two all the little hairs start to stick to the bottom of the bowl.
A scuttle would be a nice addition to my collection I think. I'd want one that I can create lather in, so the moss is out. I think I like the looks of a G town scuttle.

Hello Wildcard,
I believe that there are two basic types of scuttles.
The first, pictured below, appears to only warm the brush when inserted into the mug. Lathering would be done on the face.

The second design I have seen, pictured below is a DirtyBirdPottery Original Shaving Scuttle, can both warm the brush as well as transfer heat into the lathering bowl.

I have read that the scuttle was made in a time where hot water was not as plentiful as we now have at our disposal. I don't yet have one, but the DirtyBirdPottery unit is very tempting. And it would be nice to not have my bowl sitting in the same basin I splash water about in.

You may want to read some reviews on different scuttles.
I too am an advocate for the scuttle. I like a warm shave.

Two popular ones here (http://www.dirtybirdpottery.com/shavinggear.html) and here (http://www.georgetownpottery.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=GTP&Product_Code=SHAV0001&Category_Code=Shaving). I have the G5. I fill up the bowl and inner chamber with water, microwave for about 2.5 minutes (without the stopper in). I then soak the brush in the bowl and dump the bowl water out when I'm ready to make the lather. The G5 has a stopper to keep the water in the inner chamber. You really get spoiled with a warm brush and lather.
