Guys,

I am new to DE shaving and have enjoyed the results so far. I have used proraso only and are upset that target has stopped carrying it. What are some recommendations on creams that are easily bought locally?

If you have a Whole Foods Market or something similar pick up some Kiss My Face cream. It's very slick and a good price.

Not sure where locally is...if you let us know people can probably chime in and give you specifics. Otherwise...Crabtree & Evelyn and L'Occitane stores may be nearby. Also, Nordstrom carries AOS and T&H in some of their stores. That being said, alot of us order online as well.

I found some nice products at my local health food store(Tom's shaving cream and kiss my face). I normally order from Knoxville Cigar Co. which is about 50-60 miles from me and my stuff arrives the next day. Plus what I pay in shipping is about the same as I would pay for gas.

Proraso fan?

Go to Whole Foods and pick up some Tom's of Maine Mint and Kiss My Face Mint. Cheep and even better then Proraso IMHO

If you live in Nova Scotia, you can swing by Sara's place and pick up a Moss Scutttle!

You don't indicate where you live, but many of the drug chains in the US carry Toms of Maine. There may be some left over Palmolive Red in the local drug stores also.

Welcome, Benji!

If you check the Shave Cream Forum, and the Reviews, I think that you'll have a good handle on the favorites of B&B members. We have very fine vendors who participate on the board as well.

Finding something locally, or convenient to you is a good way to get started right away... however, a lot of the fun of shaving comes from the tremendous variety of creams and soaps that are available for us. So, broaden your horizons, and enjoy yourself!

See you around the board!

With the internet, everything's local!

anyway, they take a little more practice, but once you get the hang of them it's hard to beat a shave from one of Mama Bear's soaps. The best part is the prices are ridiculously low once you consider how long one of her soaps will last. Disclaimer: I haven't tried soaps from Saint Charles Shave or Honeybee Spa yet. Oddly enough, all three ladies are named Sue. And I think there are a couple of other Sues running around here that make soaps, too.

another side note - the absolute best shaves I get are either from my L'Occitane soap or my Pre de Provence soap, but the improvement over Mama Bear is small compared to the jump in price.
