I did not shave yesterday due to the wonderful shave I had as part of the B&B 2007 Luxury Shave Day. However, this morning I decided to improve on that epic shave with even better results including BBS against-the-grain without any irritation!!

A great way to start the week even though I did not want to get out of bed for my 2.5 hour commute to work!

While I now use a straight most days, I do use a safety when pressed for time and the Schick adjustable injector is definitely my favourite razor - easy 2 pass shaves every time.

This past weekend, I decided that I ought to re-introduce a straight-razor shave into my weekly rotation; so, this morning I took out my "Red-Imp #133" (Solingen), which had been professionally honed last December. 20 passes on the linen strop, followed by 40 passes on the leather strop, and it was ready.

Last week I received a jar of SCS Oakmoss Lavendula shaving cream, so I decided that today would be a good time to "inagurate" it. Lovely smell, and its rich lather moisturized my beard and lubricated my face for the coming onslaught.

Well, shaving with a straight razor -- no matter how sharp -- is not an easy task; and it wasn't much easier today, than four months ago. The difference this time was that I've gotten much better at prepping my beard/face, and become a methodical and deliberate shaver. It showed.

Now, I'm right-handed, so my first pass (WTG) on the right side of my face was no problem... I worked slowly, in inch-long strokes, and felt confident. From sideburn (high-up, level with the top of my ear) down to jaw-line, then further south to the base of my neck -- all went well, with no nicks or scrapes.

The problems began when I moved over to the left side of my face: I'm not ambidextrous and, with my right arm passing across my face/field-of-vision, it was difficult for me to see what I was doing in the mirror, let alone actually do it. Nevertheless, I managed to finish the left side, with almost the same success as the right side.

But my chin and upper-lip proved to be too much for me. No cuts, nicks, or scrapes; rather, a heightened sense of disquiet and unease -- enough so, that I "passed" on them, rinsed-and-re-lathered my face, and did my second pass (ATG) with the straight. Again, the left side was problematic (admittedly, the greater component was the "fear factor").

Finally, I rinsed-off and put down the straight razor, and finished-up with my trusty Schick "G6" for the third pass (XTG), as well as WTG/ATG on my chin and upper-lip.

The funny thing was that I managed to nick my !@#$% chin with the Schick! Yup, it's so lightweight and "comforting" -- especially after working with the straight -- that it almost invites mistakes... nothing that my styptic pencil didn't fix.

I like the smell of SCS Sue's Oakmoss Lavendula shaving cream, as well as its physical contributions to my shaving, so I plan to order another jar of it, along with the matching EDT, on my next order.

So; somewhat "unusual" three passes: WTG, ATG, and XTG... and I'm in BBS-shave heaven. Did I mention the witch-hazel? Damn, my face feels so tight... like a face-lift at substantially less than 1/1,000th of the cost! Now, off to the gym...

Well, I finished a 6 week blade rotation using the exact same setup (same brush, razor, Woolfat, Thayers Lemon and AOS Lavender ASB), only changing the blade once a week. As the B&B razor was my first Merkur razor, I wanted to figure out which blade worked best. After going through US Personnas, Israeli Personnas, Merkurs, Derbys, Euro Gillettes and Feathers, I had the best shaves with the Feather and the Euro Gillette blades. In my Fatboy, I love the Derby blades, and I find that the Feathers are far too harsh. It was a completely different experience with the Feather in the B&B razor. Smooth and effortless shaves with no irritation. Here's to the scientific method!

The first pass was with the blue-tip SS and it confirmed my belief that this is not the razor for me...I just think it is a little too light and thus I wind up pushing a bit too hard. the 2nd and 3rd passes with the fatboy were much better...still it is the next day and there is no irritation. In fact, the face looks better than usual!

Have been on a HBS kick lately (as I recently got 8 soaps). Have tried forest pine, lime, vetyver, bay rum, gardenia, and now oceania. Still waiting to try the coconut and the oakmoss. All of them are excellent shavers, though.

Floris JF Soap - First try Great Lather it sprung to life almost instantly poured a teaspoon of hot water on top for a minute and I had lather rolling out of the scuttle. Very Thick and Lubricating, right up there with Dr. Harris and Tabac.

This week I am just starting to enjoy a few recent birthday gifts. I'm not sure if Knize Ten is a spring/summer fragrance, but is a pretty cool day here for April.

I love the Aristocrat. I love the look of it in the box. And the shave was more than adequete. But for some reason it just slightly falls short of my Merkur HD.

I bought this beautiful Sterling-silver shaving brush recently, from a fellow B&B member, knowing that it would need to be re-bristled (awaiting reply from Shavemac) In the meantime, I want to use it, while it's still "original". Sadly, it's losing bristles; however, the stiffer boar-bristles really whip-up a froth, and its small size allows me to, literally, paint the lather onto my face. Compared to my regular badger-hair brush, using "Frank" makes me feel like a Vermeer, rather than a house-painter.

Love that QED Wild Rose! I wish it would appear on the regular product list -- I'd buy another one, in a New York minute! And the heft and feel of my Gillette "New Improved" DE razor, combined with that lather, gave me a really great shave. Now, what I need to do is order some of SCS Sue's Savory Rose EDT (too bad it only comes in 2oz size).

The usual three passes: WTG, ATG, and XTG... and I'm in BBS-shave heaven.

I am a massive fan of the Mama Bear Polynesian Red scent and also the proud owner of many of the remaining pucks that she had in stock before discontinuing the scent due to sensitivity complaints.

Recently Sue told me that she was thinking of reworking the old version of this marvelous soap to the current general soap formulation that has people raving with praise and fewer complaints. I jumped on the chance to help out and I'm glad I did!! The old soap would leave a distinct burn on my face if I tried more than one pass and not even a good aftershave or balm could cool the resulting fire.

This new version just needs, in my opinion, a little more tweaking before it's ready to be reintroduced. :smile:

Nice! How did you get the soap into the fine wooden bowl? :001_wub:

Charles did by hand, of course. "No machine work at the QED manufacturing Center." I managed to get the wooden bowl presentation as Charles had put together 3 test bowl presentations, sold two of them to customers and kept one for himself. I just happened to inquire "What's new?", and I made him an offer he couldn't refuse. :tank: Unfortunately, this does not mean the wooden bowl ... or Wild Rose ... are available to the public at large, they are not. He is still mulling Wild Rose and Barbershop Lilac ... but not certain if he will put them in opaque jars [same shape as the current jar, but with a material similar to the tubes he uses for the shave sticks], or wooden bowls.

Its been gettin addicting trying to keep up with Jim's fab photos; but here's my 2nd try..
Also a couple of scores included; The shave bowl was liberated from the capitalistic regime that employs me:biggrin: The beige swirl has a sandpaperlike texture while the green swirl is smooth..easy to get a good lather going..

Ahh..well umm.. Its from my restaurant.. Its used to serve our steam dumplings.. Specially made for us in Greece... Don't ask me to liberate anymore of these POWs as Im waiting to see what will be coming for the new season...I would love to offer you one of these but it seems to be quite popular as they're being picked up by the customers as well; I believe we only have about 10 of these left thus the need for a new order..I also doubled said order...If we get them soon we will replace all of them so maybe they'll be 10 for me to liberate!!!:biggrin:
Also that sandpaper like texture gives the bowl a sure grip when all that lather is flying...

I feel great! OK, a couple of nicks... that's what happens when:

you go for that one last shave with the blade; and
you shave with a lighter razor, and end-up applying pressure and/or not making deliberate strokes.

But, as we all know, it could've been much, much worse.

The smell of this shaving soap is wonderful, as are it's moistening and cushioning characteristics. The aroma of the matching EDT is every bit as nice.

The usual three passes: WTG, ATG, and XTG... and I'm in BBS-shave heaven. Now, off to the gym!

not the best shave...I think the blade may have been past its prime (even though it was only the third use). Alum stung quite a bit and I had a small weeper (which is really really rare for me)...but all is well today and my face doesn't look particularly irritated or anything.

A wonderful shave! I used my new Sterling-silver shaving mug, and "Frank" (who's losing his hair) for the first time, and found that mixing-up a good lather was both easy and relaxing. Moreover, "Frank"'s 14mm knot made lathering my face feel like painting a portrait, rather than a wall.

The usual three passes: WTG, ATG, and XTG... and I'm in BBS-shave heaven. I feel fine, look great, and smell like a gentleman. Now, off to the gym.

Unfortunately, the glide was so good I got a little careless on the neck and came close to upsetting my problem grain. Tried a single-pass-shave against the grain. Surprisingly it worked, my skin is still attached to my face and no irritations at all. But not that smooth either but good enough for me.

First Time ever using the B&B 2006 Silvertip in Ebony Brush I acquired from JIM ( Redbike). The brush has quite a luxury feel to it and I have nothing to really compare to it. My other brushes have been either vintage Badger brushes of the Pure Badger quality or the newly acquired Simpson Chubby 1 in Best that has no comparison to the B&B Brush. I would tend to use the Simpson daily and save the B&B for Sunday morning shaves like today. My only question now is.... will the Plisson I want so badly now get any "playing time?"

I'm saying that "un-numbered" means "ageless"; that's my story, and I'm sticking to it. Anyway, it's hefty, solid, and shiny... and it's got all of its teeth, and not a one of 'em is crooked (which is more than I can say for my own).

"Frank" continues to lose his hair... a bristle here, a bristle there. I guess "un-numbered" might not always mean "ageless", eh?

This was my first shave with TGQ's Desert Ironwood shaving soap, which I received in yesterday's mail. I'd gotten a sample piece of bath soap from Colleen 'way back last year, with this scent, but never got around to ordering the shaving soap. Well, it's all that I'd hoped for; and then some. Rich lather -- moisturizing and lubricating -- and, no less important, it smells so damn good! To my surprise, Colleen included a small sample of the matching Desert Ironwood cologne... when I poured the little bit that was in the vial, into the palm of my hand, I really wanted it to be in a shot-glass; know what I mean? I feel and smell great!

And it was a great shave, too. The usual three passes: WTG, ATG, and XTG... and I'm in BBS-shave heaven. OK, this might not be "Heaven", but it's not "Iowa", either.
