The world is full of prretty, floral scents, but sometimes I want something more medicinal. Camphor!
Maybe camphor, eucalyptus and tea tree oil?

Almond is my vote, and seems seasonally appropriate as well :thumbup1:

Vetiver!!!
Something nice and dry along the lines of Lalique's Encre Noire would be amazing.

Vetiver vote here. I would very much love a vetiver soap as I'm not much of a cream guy but digging some vetiver colognes. And if it smells anywhere as good as your other 2 flavours oh boy!

Almond is a very apropriate scent for the season, but there is already a lot of almond scented shaving soaps.
Vetiver is a more unusual scent on shaving soaps and if it smells so good as your lavender soap, it's a winner! So vetiver gets my vote. :thumbup1:

Almond sounds good, but a potent, true pipe tobacco would be great for the winter. I found some pipe tobacco fragrance oil and mixed it with some brambleberry soap and really want it back.

I'm in the minority, but I voted Orange. There's something about a citrus scent that just works for me. And for those who say citrus is a spring/summer scent, I'd remind them that oranges come into season in the winter.
Come on people! Vote Mentol!

Yeah, I love a good menthol soap - a great wake-up in the morning! :thumbup1:
And, while I've never tried vetiver, all the votes make me curious. (Well, some would say that I'm pretty curious even without the votes!)
But, hands down - after trying TGQ's Cavendish Black, and knowing that there are many more exquisite pipe tobacco scents out there, my ultimate vote has got to be cast with breadstick's: a potent, true pipe tobacco would be wonderful! And, for those of you who've never tried a pipe tobacco soap (and, NO - Tabac's not it - I said pipe tobacco!) - you wouldn't be disappointed! :w00t:
BTW, breadstick: where did you find that pipe tobacco fragrance oil?

BTW, breadstick: where did you find that pipe tobacco fragrance oil?
I got it at a shop down in the next town over from my house. They have a website and are happy to ship anything to you. It's labeled as a scented oil but I tested it on my face before adding it to my soap and it worked out amazingly. It also works well in a scented oil burner. My face and my house smelled amazing.

How about a balsam pine scent with a cooling affect.? A frosted pine, of sorts? Seems appropriate for the holidays and cooler months!

Thanks to all who answered the poll. I have decided that rather than drawing 25 winners, everyone who has responded to date will receive a sample. The poll remains open (as I do not have the power to close a thread); however, only those who responded to date will be able to receive samples.
So, to those who responded: "Congratulations!" Please send your email address, screen name, real name and shipping details to dave [at] bentonclay.com. In your email please remind me which scent family you voted for as that is the sample you will receive. I will be making up these samples over the Christmas holidays and sending them early in January.
Note: Vetiver is the clear winner; however, it will not be December's scent as I have learned that Vetiver is hard to get right. So I'll need more time. I'd love to hear more impressions of what people think of as Vetiver, since it is most commonly used in blends, or as a fixitive. When you think of vetiver, are you thinking of the raw, uncut, in-your-face scent of pure, unadulterated, natural vetiver? Are you thinking of another brand, an interpretation as it were, with Vetiver in the name? What is vetiver to you?
I already have an opinion as I have been sniffing various Vetiver fragrance oils and essential oils for the past two weeks, but would love to know yours!

I'm a little confused by your instructions on how to claim my sample.
For those of us who voted for vetiver you state that you are not offering samples of vetiver yet (until you get the scent right).
In my emial to you should I just indicate that I voted for vetiver and then select another scent family for my free sample or do I just need to wait until you have vetiver available before I get my sample?
No worries either way, just need some clarification.
Thanks again for doing this!!! :thumbup1:

When I voted for Vetiver I had a vetiver blend in mind, preferably vetiver and citrus similar to guerlain vetiver.
I tried raw and in your face vetiver with the cyril salter shave cream and it really wasn't a pleasant experience for me

Clarification - yes, everyone who voted vetiver will be receiving vetiver samples for evaluation but I won't be able to offer the product for sale in Dec. as originally hoped. Sorry for any confusion.

I'd be very interested in something along the line of L'Occitane Vetyver...an earthy, spicy, woody interpretation.

Chris, as promised I did some 'playing' during the holidays and am almost ready to send out the results. This should happen within the next 3 or 4 days.
Thanks for the inquiry by the way, and for the recent mentions too. Much appreciated.

Just saw this post - and I like the combination of vetiver/sandalwood - even if it increases the price, it would be very much worth it IMHO. That would certainly also add to the "woodiness". Looking forward to your decision.

+1 me too.
I just saw this poll and being a newbie to vetiver, voted for it.
Based upon other recommendations, I have an unopened Salter vetiver awaiting my brush and now I am thinking about dropping out of the MWF for January group so I can try it.
I had no idea that there were so many variations of Vetiver.
I have a small tube of TOBS, Jermyn Sensitive balm that I had been told has a Vetiver scent. I like it and am eager to try others.
Looking forward to your version.

Received my sample today, also. A very generous sample at that...should be plenty to give it a thorough testing...probably a dozen shaves or more.
Initial sniffing was very nice, but reserving judgment until it's lathered up. I've got a good feeling about this one! :001_cool:

As others have mentioned, this is a nice soap. Only one use so far, but I got a great lather with it and I love the scent. Scent is not overpowering. Very nice citrus with the vetiver below. Two thumbs up!
After I've had 7 or more shaves from this stuff I'll try to remember to post a review.
