I noticed some do a cold rinse between the shave and the application of alum bar, ASB, etc.
I will assume this closes the pores?? Any other advantages, and how many do it?
Every time yes it is good for the skin but I also like the cooling feeling before the Alum stick

Yes, closes the pores. Feels good, too.

If it did nothing else but feel so good, that would be enough for me, but, it also has the advantage of closing my pores, and did I mention that it really, really feels great?

And, if you have any small nicks, it will usually close them up too. :c16:

I do. For ultimate cooling effect: Cold rinse, then Proraso Pre/Post followed by towel soaked in ice-cold water with ice cubes... freeeze.

The cold rinse after the alum bar application is key. Great feeling, tightens up the skin nicely.

I'm going to try this. I usually do it the opposite way, rinse then alum bar, but sometimes it gets messy when applying a lotion at the end because the alum flakes up sometimes.

Maybe I'm the only one but I HATE the cold rinse!
I go from a nice warm shower to a nice warm lather, then warm rinse between shaves. I just HATE the cold!

If you use any aftershave with alcohol in it, the cold rinse closes the pores and makes the burn almost cut in half.
example: if i dont cold rinse before i use aqua velva i get BAD burn, i mean Home Alone type burn.
If i cold rinse before hand though, the burn is almost negligable

+1 on loving the cold rinse. After it, I run cold water over the alum block and then rub it on my face. Just like a Junior Mint - it's VERY refreshing.
