Wiki doesn't tell. Want to know if the Valobra shave stick comes in a "twist-to-open", plastic tube or some other way. If it is not the twist thing, how does one use, store, travel with it (or any other that is not in a plastic tube)?

No tube. Just a soap stick with a good foil wrap on the bottom third. I just use it and slip it back in its cardboard box. The box looks like it will last till the soap is gone.
Fine fine soap...a must try.

Nope, not the twist type. Just a stick of soap with foil wrapped around the end. All that comes in a cardboard box. I just let the stick dry and chuck it in the cardboard box for travel. Tho, these days I usually travel with a brushless cream.
BTW, it's wonderful tallow stuff  (the soft soap is non-tallow, only the stick has tallow).

I've heard of some people grating the stick and and putting it into a twist container. I believe there's a tutorial here somewhere. Here you go!! (http://www.badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=23892)

Use an old Colgate shave stick refill holder or an empty glue stick tube.

If you don't have the resources to mill the stick into a twist-up container, an empty pill bottle works really well for holding it between shaves. I saw markb post a picture of all of his sticks in pill bottles so I took a page from his book. The pill bottles are great for travel too. :thumbup1:

I milled mine into an empty Mama Bears tub. Top notch!

That tutorial/pictorial is a B&B classic! I almost bought one of those cheese mills as a result.
What is the scent of the Valobra stick ?
thanks

Reminds me of ice cream.
West Coast Shaving has twist up shaving containers. (http://www.westcoastshaving.com/Twist-up-Shaving-Stick-Containers-2-oz_p_649.html)

To me it smells just like an unscented soap. Almost what clean hotel towels smell like.

Light soapy w/ a hint of almond.

As close to unscented to my nose as anything I've tried. Lathers on par for me along the lines of Vintage Yardley.

For me it is an excellent spicy almond scent.
Cool, then I will give it a try.
I am not a big fan of menthol, is why I asked.
Just ordered some from BullGoose, so it should be here yesterday, knowing Phil.
I noticed that it says "Hard Soap".
Is it really hard, hard, or more like La Toja. (I hope)
Last week I would not give face latherers/shave sticks a 2nd look, but my experience with La Toja and a refurbed brush with a TGN knot, caused me to see the light.
Now I am collecting shave sticks. Hmmm, is there a SSAD, if so, I have it.
Unfortunately, I milled the other 2 I had, Speick and Arko.
I guess I will have to eventually see what all the noise re Moos is about.
I already have Tabac in the bowl form.
ciao
If you don't have a mill or grater, you can cut the stick into a bunch of thin discs and then mash them down with your thumbs, one disc at a time, into a bowl.
Not so good for travel, but great if you're using it at home.
Valroba stick is great stuff. One of my favorites.

I used a regular $2 grater (the coarsest side) and then mashed it into a bowl. I washed it thoroughly before anybody used it to grate cheese.
Valoblra is a great soap; one of my favourites! It's right up there with Tabac and MWF.

It is harder than La Toja. Both are excellent but La Toja works a bit better IMO.

About the same hardness as Speick for Valbora stick.
Milling and mashing sticks...what a shame. You can shove them back in an empty glue stick though to reclaim them as sticks.

I agree. Using a shave stick is one of the fun things about shaving. As a bonus, nothing could be easier or quicker. I love shave sticks.
Forgive me for hijacking for a bit but,
Do/Can you use other hard/semi-hard soaps in place of a stick ?
Say that I have an unopened puck of MWF in my stash.
Would it work to smear it on my face then face lather ?
Or any other shaving soap for that matter ?
thanks, and back to topic.

Soap is soap, there's nothing magical about it whether it's in puck or stick form. Any system that gets the soap lathered up and on your face is a good system.
I've been known to pick up entire pucks and rub them on my face - it's actually easier to hold one in your palm that way than it is to use a stick with 2 or 3 fingers1

Mine travels in a large pill bottle. My pharmacist was happy to give me one.

+1 Very easy to use. Shave sticks are the number one choice of shave soaps for (this) college student(s).

Very muted clean soapiness. More muted than MWF. Faint hint of vanilla, perhaps. Very pleasant. Performance is superlative, lathers like a high end cream. One of the best hard soaps in production.
