Picked this up for $8, the mug is in excellent condition and the soap appears unused. This soap doesn't get much mention on here, mainly I guess because it's not very common. I grated it into a Ziploc container and used it this morning for the first time, and it is outstanding. I would say it rivals vintage Williams in performance. The scent is very similar to Williams and I noticed while grating it that it was very moist and would stick together when squeezed, just like Williams.

I'm curious if Franklin Toiletries that sold these also made their own soap, or if they had it made by someone for them. The resemblance to Williams is what makes me wonder, but there's probably no way to ever find that out for sure.

If you ever see any at a reasonable price grab it.

I see these sets on the bay with mug, soap, brush quite often. I have bid on a few but have yet to get one in my price range.

This is a tallow soap and said to be good, plus the puck is large.

I bought one of these mugs, with soap a around 5 years ago. Don't think I could get it to lather. Of course back then, I didn't know what the hell I was doing, so I might try to go find it.

We had a tobacco store in the local mall that carried this brand of product. I would go in, just to smell the tobacco. Of course, when I got old enough to try a pipe, I found it didn't quite taste as good as it smelled (IMHO).

Snagged a mint condition Barbershop brand brush to complete the set. I really like the brush after one use, especially the handle.

Yeah, I got a set off ebay a while ago. The soap does not have any scent left but it produces a wonderful lather. Plus the mug is cool. :thumbup1:

Barbershop is a very fine tallow shave soap. I also had that same mug for a while, nice!

I just finished a shave using a Barbershop boar bristle brush with nice wood handle that came in a set with matching wood bowl ( that now contains Valobra). No complaints there either.

Nice score! I picked up an unused puck of Barbershop soap a while back but haven't tried it out yet.

Great mug!

+1!

I have seen a couple of other members with those mugs in their dens & I seriously need to find one for myself. They are quite nice-looking :tongue_sm
