Howdy all,

So I've been enjoying a few good cigars lately. Mostly Cohibas, Montecristos, and Romeo y Juliettas. Now dont get me wrong they are fine cigars, but they can get a bit pricey after a while.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend me a few nice cigars that wont break the bank too much. Of course i dont mind spending the big bucks for the cohibas and others once and a while I'm just looking for something i can smoke more of everyday.

Looking forward to what you guys have to say,
Thanks for the helps guys!

I really like Fonseca Cosacos; not a big cigar, but great flavor profile....

Perdomo makes a darn fine cigar (in champagne or maduro) and for an affordable price. I know friends who have had some good luck with the Partagas lines, as well. Consider buying by the box to keep prices down, especially at auction.

I like the Perdomo line, those are definitely cheaper than what you have been smoking. I feel the quality is still there too. Also check out the Rocky Patel line. I recently been smoking those more frequently and they are good!

You being in Canada, pretty much ALL cigars will be expensive. But hey, at least Cubans are legal there.

Tatuaje's Havana line (red bands), Casa Magna, Padron X000 series (any) are all good lower priced non-Cubans.

I get Jose L. Piedra Brevas in sometimes, Cuban machine-mades. Not a stellar cigar, but a darn good one, especially at about a buck and a half each. I smoke 'em when I mow the lawn. :wink2:

Partagas maduro are always a good bet, and for a real cheap good tasting everyday cigar, Baccarat's aren't bad.

Good tasting, cheap cigars are machine-made Dutch cigars. Brands like Oud Kampen and Justus van Maurik really make a quality cigar at a very affordable price. The Oud Kampen 'La Donna' panatella is lovely just as the Justus van Maurik short, thin cigarillos are great.

I just had an good time with a Rocky Patel American Select recently. I got some 6x 60s but you can go for a smaller set. They are mild, but sweeter than usual. I do like to smoke Acid Blues but sometimes enjoy a more traditional smoke from time to time.

The secret really is to age them a few years before smoking. Some cigars taste so much better aged at least 2-5 years. So plan ahead.

However, the American Selects were good from day one.

5 Vegas does have a good reputation for cheap and good. Remember price does not determine a good smoke all the time.

CAO Brazilias are excellent, if you like dark and flavorful tobaccos. They're not cheap, but there are minis available in 20 to a box.
I very much like backwoods wild 'n mild cigarillos. They're ugly but sweet, aged, and tasty. Depending on where you are, they're about 1 dollar apiece in an 8-pack. Some gas stations have them in singles.
I've given up my cigars, as they irritate the heck out of my sinuses and bring about sinus infections for me.

I like the Romeo y Julietta Churchill and the Punch Double Corona best, among the Cubans.

For cheaper cigars, don't overlook the better Honduran cigars. The Honduran Punch Grand Cru line and the Hoyo de Monterrey Excaliburs in the larger ring guages are rather nice, though not as satisfying as both marks were about 20 years ago when they both had a much richer, heavier, buttery-sweet taste. You should be able to find them for less than half of a comparable Habano.

I only smoke one smaller cigar, and that is the Fuente Hemmingway Short Story. Very nice little smoke, and you can suck one down in less than a half hour, so good for after dinner. It is an interesting shape, burns remarkably well for a figurado, and has a flavor just powerful enough to burst its way in to your taste buds after consuming a rich or spicy meal.

Well this all depends on alot of factors. like do you prefer full bodied, full flavor, medium to full. but from the cigars you have listed. I believe these two cigars to be the best all around smokes for the money. Perdomo lot 23 , and Gurkha evil. I also like Perdomo^2 lim edition maduro. The one thing about me is that i cant smoke mild cigars they actually physically make me nauseous. I like medium-full to full flavor and medium to full body. If you have yet to experience an evil get a robusto and taste and amazingly good mildly complex medium-full to full( full in the 2nd half) cigar. It does not cost more than 8 bucks either.

Love the Hemingway line!

Gotta say, though... For a solid, inexpensive smoke, the A. Fuente Curly Head at $2.25 a stick has got to be a top contender.

curly heads can be hit and miss though because they are the clippings of A.Fuente cigars. Now an original flor de oliva is a good cheap cigar. Stay away from the Quorum that was the worst stick i ever had I blew junks a quarter into the smoke. I had my first bahia trinidad last night it was the first cigar that i could eat food with and smoke at the same time. since it taste like naturally ground dry cinnamon( not the sweet kind the earthy dry cinnamon without sugar) i naturally ate a piece of buttered toast to complement it.

Try Toscani, start with clasico, and, unless you are a hardcore smoker, halve them. If that feels too strong, try with Toscanello (already halved, and with two months aging less) or halved Toscano garibaldi.

I personally like the RyJ short churchills, although I haven't had one since they came out as cubans are illegal here.

As for my non Cuban smokes, recently I have really liked the casa magnas and la aroma de Cuba no.5s.

How about a Rocky Patel (Nicaraguan and Honduran tobaccos), limited edition Lancero size?

The Lancero (7in x 38 ring guage), is one of the most popular cigar sizes today. The Rocky Patel Limited Lancero Sampler (medium - full strength), includes the following cigars (in order form Left to Right),: 2 Sun Grown Lancero Cigars, 2 Rocky Patel Edge Maduro Lancero, 2 Rocky Patel Edge Lancero, 2 Olde World Reserve Lancero, 2 Decade Lancero @ $49.00 :c2:

Here are some notes on each one provided by "Her Humidor Cigar Riveiw" http://www.herhumidor.com/2008/12/rocky-patel-limited-edition-lancero.html

Rocky Patel Sun Grown Lancero- "This dark Colorado maduro cigar also has a cute pig-tail cap. This medium to full bodied cigar starts off mildly sweet and creamy, with notes of vanilla and black pepper. The earthy base flavor is surrounded by roasted nuts, raisins and spice. Lovely".

The Edge Maduro Lancero- "This cigar feels coarse to the touch due to it's toothiness. It's a well made dark maduro with a pig-tail cap. You get a nice dark roasted coffee taste with notes of chocolate on the finish. It's caramel sweet and nutty with a spice level that gradually increases as you smoke it. No problems with the draw on this baby".

The Edge Lancero- "Sports a cute pig-tail cap, this stick is medium brown and "paperbag" smooth with a slight lumpy feel and small veins throughout. The cigar tastes peppery off the bat, but immediately develops a nice creamy cafe au lait flavor with touches of cinnamon and nutmeg. Balanced and complex, it finishes nicely with notes of dried fruit, vanilla and caramel. Full bodied and delicious".

Olde World Reserve Lancero- "This sharply box-pressed cigar is covered in a dark maduro wrapper that looks "ironed" smooth and feels firmly packed. Despite the tough draw on this complicated to make cigar, I really enjoyed the dark coffee flavor and caramel sweetness it imparts. "Earthy" is a good descriptor for this guy because I swear I could taste soil and coffee with each draw. There is some mild pepperiness in the background along with notes of leather. Overall, this cigar exudes elegance and sophistication due to it's well aged quality tobacco".

Rocky Patel Decade Lancero- "This cigar is sharply box-pressed with minimal veins and nice smoothness. It drew well and tasted fabulous with rich mocha, tangy citrus, along with hints of spice and sweetness. You also get a nice nutty creaminess which adds great balance to the smoke. Medium to full bodied goodness".

I'm a big fan of the edge cigars my self, I lucked into some Edge Perfecto Maduro a while back. Maybe it was the company I was keeping or the particular scotch I had at the time, but it was one of the most enjoyable cigar experiences I can recall.

HOYO DE MONTERREY ! It's my cheap everyday go to cigar. Less than 2 bucks a stick. You can get habano ,maduro, or double maduro. I actually like the habano as a morning cigar, lot of flavor but not to intense. I buy a 50 count box of the Rothschilds, 4 1/2 x 50, for a hundred bucks!

You can shop around for a box of GURKHA Legend Robustos for around a hundred bucks. For the the money it's your best bet. I have 40 sitting in a humidor just getting better with age.

PUNCH GRAN CRU run for around 60 bucks a box of 20 and if you let them age for 6 + months they're 10 times better, patience young jedi.

Hey Basil,

Lots of good recommendations here. However, not everyone has listed "bang for the buck" smokes, which is what I think you are looking for as a daily driver, correct? I'm 50 yrs old and have smoked thousands of cigars. A lot of it is experimentation to find good value. I smoke 'em every day so that's what I look for. I'm not trying to impress anyone but the gatekeeper of my wallet.

The following brands, which all offer good value in a variety of choices, are ones that I would recommend you start to explore:

Hoyo de Monterrey
El Rey Del Mundo
Puros Indios
Punch

They are all affordable. Yes, I do smoke more "higher end" brands like Padron, Rocky Patel, etc. But, I'm not going to smoke them daily. There's just too many more affordable choices for the daily smoker. Good luck!

Ooh, nice to see that the smokers have their own, presumably air conditioned, lounge :)

Lately a smoking buddy and I have been trying out a range of smokes. Currently we're liking Partagas Mille Fleurs (good value for money, Medium light smoke) and Bolivar Cornonas Extras (more pricey, bold yet creamy if aged nicely).

We also picked up a box of late 90's Partagas Astorias - wow, these are just fantastic. I can see us buying another box of these to stash away.

Rocky Patel's Indian Tobac line is one of the best bangs for the buck I've ever experienced. They start at under $40 a box, and are nicely constructed and packaged. The line maxes out at like $60-65 a box. The edge line is a bit more but still reasonably priced at $5-6 a piece for most sizes.

The Pardon x000 series are excellent every day cigar.

I bought a bundle of the Indian Tabac Super Fuerte Maduro coronas that were so tight when I got them they were unsmokable. I smoked about 5 of them and considered throwing them away. Instead I buried them in the cooler and after 9 months they transformed into a really good smoke.

I like La Gloria Cubana, anybody else?

I like them but I liked them better in the mid 90s when the brand was still a one man operation. I was in baltimore about every 35 days and I got mine at Faders. They were very hard to get, but at the same time very reasonably priced. I think there is less ligero now, and the wrappers are sometimes not up to the quality, blemish-wise, that they were back then. Still a nice smoke. And the chick on the band is quite attractive, FWIW.
