Brush Restoration

Hello all,

I'm just after some advice, I've got a really nice brush, knot and that is in excellent condition but the wooden handle isn't.

It was possibly coated in marine grade varnish but it doesn't seem to of taken to the whole brush and in small patches the varnish seems to of washed away.

Is it a simple case of just adding more varnish or do i need to sand? Or do I just not worry about it?

I would sand all the old finish off. Otherwise you would have a blotchy application. Pictures would be nice to have though.

Definitely sand off the old varnish and reapply a few new coats.
