My Turkish barber would use this soap when I go for a barber shave. I think you should go for it. :thumbup1: What do you have to lose? I just milled a MWF puck today.

I haven't....yet. mine are on the way and I plan on milling them once they arrive. my guess is that milling them will be no different than milling any shave stick

don't bother with milling it if you must, just smash it into a mug. It's super soft :) Personally, i like it better as a stick

Hmmm. I have only tried it twice but it felt much harder and was more difficult to apply than other sticks, although I don;t use sticks all that often. That's what prompted me to consider milling it so I could apply it as I would a soap. I guess I could so that anyway, although awkwardly.

I've heard that complaint from quite a few folks on here, actually. Never noticed it myself, but i think the softness of arko could possibly cause more "drag" on your skin in the same way softer compound tires are considered "sticky" and hold the road better

Yes, I have. DON'T DO IT!!!! The Arko shave stick is so soft that it will clog up any kind of press you have (it gummed up mine so much I couldn't even get most of the stick out without tremendous effort and multiple utensils - yarrrr!), or just be a complete mess with a cheese grater. It has a tendency to stick to whatever it comes into contact with when grated.
It is one of the easiest soaps to just squish down in a dish with your fingers.

Yes I did with my first stick since I was not used to use them. I ruined more sticks like that on their maiden trip in my den...
Now I have seen the light I only use them in stick-form.

Get yourself a cheap grater from the thrift store or Wally World. Buy some Jello pudding in the small plastic cups. Eat the pudding. Clean the cup. These make excellent molds for my mug. The soap will not stick to it. Leave the Arko in wrapper. Place the stick in the freezer for a bit. Remove the Arko from the freezer and unwrap. Grate the stick on the finest side of the grater. Pack the shreds into the pudding cup. Don't be timid, press it in good. You could probably put 1 1/2 sticks in the pudding cup. This works very well for me. A mold release I have used before is pure silicon spray. DO NOT use anything except PURE silicone. :thumbup1:

good to know. looks like I won't need to grate it after all

I just pressed it into a cleaned twist up deodorant dispenser. Did the same with a Speick stick.. works awesome..

I bought a stick to try a couple of weeks ago. It is a fantastic performer although not everyone is impressed with the scent. I simply cut the stick in half and pressed one piece into a small shaving bowl. "Her indoors" is using the other half to shave her legs...

After reading everyone's comments, I think I may fool around with pressing it into a small bowl and seeing how that works out.
Thanks for all of your comments.

I've heard you can just squish it down in a bowl, eliminating the need for milling. Haven't tried that to mine...I'm still airing it out to get rid of the smell!
Found the thread...

if you want to mill it.. put it in the freezer. if it starts getting soft 1/2 way through grating it stick it back in the freezer.

I'm definitely not going to mill it.
I might try to press it into a dish, but I'm not going to do that at this point either.
Both times I used it, I thought it was hard to apply to my face. The shave was ok, but nothing special. I have also use the Gentlemen's Best shaving stick, which I think is terrific.

Wow. Such a big deal over an easy task. Cheese grater works fine. Make flakes, then press gently into mug of your choice. No mess at all. I prefer this to using it as a stick. I got a great shave with mine yesterday.

That's what got me started on this. :-)
As you can see, if you read through the thread, no one thinks it is a good idea.

Except me. I did read the thread. I suspect that some of the guys who had poor luck with the grater were trying for really small flakes, which would tend to gum up more. Bigger flakes worked fine for me, and didn't gum up the grater either. "There's more than one way to skin a cat."

I appreciate your comments. I am looking at a grater I purchased specifically to do things like this, but I haven't done any.
If I do try to do it, I'll post here.

I love the scent of Arko. It's very old school barber shop. It does fine as a stick, but I get much better lather with it in a mug. YMMV!

This what I did....just kind of squished it into a bowl and it's been working like a charm for over a year now!

Well, I did it.
I used a cheese grater, made a mess and pressed it into a bowl. Compacted it slightly, dampened it, pressed ti again, and used it to hand lather my hand in a new brush test. It works very nicely.
Thank you all.
I admit it, it was a sticky, messy job. But so what. :-)

I got mine like 5 minutes ago. the first thing I did was take the wrapper off both sticks and pressed them into the 4 oz tub i'm using. they both fit perfectly and i'm glad I didn't put my cheese grater through hell

This made me chuckle. EAT the pudding, do not apply to face and attempt to shave with the pudding.
