View Full Version : Why is the J type the ONLY injector I can use?

Hi Gents,

This is a question for the injector-ites out there.

I have been trying a whole heap of injectors lately and have found that most of them give a really uncomfortable shave [pulling and tugging] except for the Schick J type.

I have so far tried the J, M adjustable, 2xG, L, PAL injectomatic and have an E type on the way.

The L and M types were similar to the J but too mild. The one common thread is the razors which show a lot of blade are the ones that feel very rough and the ones that show less blade (J, L and M) felt pretty good.

Anyone else experience anything like this? Can anyone comment WHY this may be happening?

I use the Personna [EMS] blades and put a new one in each razor I try.

I have tried all the above, but not the M. For me my J4 is my best injector, so I agree. Do not know why. I just like how it shaves. It does have a longer handle.

Do you stretch your skin when you use an injector? It helps if you stretch like you're using a straight, but I do this for all my razors since I shaved with straights for some time now and its become a good habit.

Tighter skin + lighter pressure = better results less pain.

The Js that I've tried, J1 and J3, do give me great results. I class them as "mild-aggressive", they feel very comfortable but the whiskers still come right off. If I had to guess, I'd say that the amount of blade exposure and the design of the safety bar are just right.

The L is too mild for me, but the adjustable, set at 8, works as well as any. I shaved with a type D this morning, not exactly rough, but felt like I was flirting with danger. The G and E types both work excellently for me, but based on the comments of others, it's one of those YMMV things.

Maybe the answer to "why?" is that the more aggressive injectors do require a bit more technique before you get a really comfortable shave. The Js may strike that happy medium between ease of use and effectiveness.

I just got a J3 Golden 500. I'm travelling in New Orleans and gave it a first run last night. Pretty bad shave, surprisingly.

I had a similar experience, tugging, etc. I'm chalking it up to very hard water and a less than slick Proraso mix.

I'm going to give it another try when I get home. Hope I'm not disappointed as you are. It's a sweet looking razor...

If you stretch your skin tight with the other hand does the razor tug? I see a lot of belief from people now that you shouldn't stretch with a safety razor and I think this is not true at all. I always stretch the skin and the results are always better and there is always less irritation on my skin. Look at old shaving ads from the early gillette days and you will see illustrations of guys stretching with the safety razor.

I've never had to stretch with my Type C, E, G, M, or L. Also no stretching with my Pal Adjustable or Injectomatic.

I'm hoping for a better shave - maybe its a bad blade..

Could be the blade, you're right. Are you using the chinese blades in the yellow packages?

You don't NEED to stretch with safety razors but I find it improves things across the board.

I don't recall the thread, but someone posted about injectors, and making sure that the blade is not rubbing against the stop while it's loading. That would make a very irritating shave if it's doing that.

edit: it was luvmysuper. (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=140758&highlight=injector)

Don't need to stretch while using an N-type and NOS blades. Perfect shave every time.

I am presently using a batch I bought in on with other B&B members. I think they're Ted Pellas.

Not sure why I bought in - probably out of curiosity. I am fortunate enough to be able to get Schick injector blades at my local Price Chopper in the metro Kansas City area.

I take my first post back. Put in a fresh blade and the Golden 500 shave was awesome! I think I may have scratched the first blade while loading.

Great shave - the handle is a bit long, may take some getting used to. I think the length of the I type is idea. I have one but not the one with the cleaning lever.
