On a recent business trip to Italy, My partner and I spent countless hours scouring beauty shops, "profumeria" boutiques, barber shops and pharmacies looking for the best the Italians had to offer in shaving products. One name, unknown to us, kept being mentioned... PREP!
Although the Prep brand started in Roseville, Michigan in 1863, the cream really took off in the Italian and South African markets beginning in the 1930's. Prep was primarily found in barber shops, when shaving was an every-day occurrence.
After using the product myself, I can honestly say that Prep makes shaving more comfortable, especially for those with sensitive skin or a heavy beard. The product contains a unique blend of essential oils, natural aromatics, and antiseptic in a creamy base. It is particularly effective when used as a pre-shave cream under a layer of shaving soap lathered with a traditional shaving brush. Prep can also be used alone for a brushless shave, when you are short for time.
Unfortunately for now, quantity is very limited, so I've put together this little promotion of 15 units. I've priced it as low as possible but there is one catch. If you purchase the promotion, I want to hear your feedback on Prep!

One last thing...
In the coming months, we'll have a lot more products coming from Italy and Europe which I am very excited about. I think you guys will be very happy when you see the pricing we'll be able to offer... stay tuned.
Thanks to all the B&Bers for your ongoing support,
Joseph

I hear this is prorasos counter-part?

Can this be used like a pre-shave oil in that it is applied first and then a regular shaving cream is lathered over it? Does it dry or soak in like a preshave oil does? Will it affect my lather or stick to my brush?

It's similar to the Proraso pre-post cream.

Yes, definitely. It can be used both as a pre-shave and as a brushless shave cream. When used as a pre-shave, you rub it into a damp face and massage it into the grain of the beard, lifting the hairs. I haven't found it to affect the lather other than adding a little menthol kick and nice cooling sensation; it doesn't affect the brush in anyway, in my experience.

I used the prep this morning..
Best shave of my life!!! Now, I was also using a new slant for the first time so I can't say for sure it was the treatment but...
It does smell a bit like noxema, but I like it! My wife is dutch as well so she gave me the full translation!

I immediately pulled the trigger on the big Prep!!
Second day of use and man, I'm getting amazing shaves.. again with the slant, the Prep and Personna Medical Blade (my go-to standard blade of choice).
This time was coconut Trumpers instead of an Arko stick but even SWMBO was commenting on the closeness and absence of any irritation..
The dutch goes into the many uses.. (and trust me, the pictures describe them completely sufficiently) :001_smile
This may be my new go to gents!

Ya, unfortunately the tracking system doesn't carry across the border, I really hate that. Generally, these packages take 6-12 business days depending on the state. I hope it gets there soon.

I've had time to test the Prep cream twice now. Once without any other prep more than a norma face wash and once after showering. In both cases I used prep on half my face to try to see any difference it made.
In both cases I would say that I noticed that the shave was slightly smoother on the side that I had used Prep cream on. The smell does remind me very much of Noxzema and I think it's a nice, fresh scent. The cooling effect on the skin from the Prep cream is very noticeable and I can imagine that it's effective on sun burnt skin as they mention on the package.
The bad things about it are the ingredients though. It contains ammonia, a VOC that can react with bleach to form chloride gas. It also contains triclosan, a (unfortunately) common antibacterial agent that is now being detected in more than 50 % of American waterways. It's a hormone disruptor in some animals and can react with UV light to form dioxins. In other words something you wouldn't want to flush down the drain. It also contains methylparaben and propylparaben which both have been discussed as being potentially carcinogenic.
All in all, a decent product but some of the ingredients makes me a bit sceptic about using it unfortunately.

My Prep arrived yesterday. Showered this morning and used the Prep. Today was the 3rd (and final) shave with the first Gillette 7 O'Clock "Black Ninja" Super Platinum blade I've ever used (as I progress through my blade sampler). Today's shave was better than the first 2 shaves with that blade. In fact, it could have been the best shave of my short 4-month foray into DE shaving.
Now, if we can repeat that performance, including on those days when I don't shower, then we definitely have a hit.
Thanks for the opportunity! :001_smile

curious if Razorock is formulated especially so that it is very different from other Alum products? or is it that it comes w/ a handle. just curious - thanks

Scary stuff there...especially the part about the carcinogens. I wonder if the ingredients mentioned, and their potential side effects, have anything to do with the fact that the product is not sold here in the USA? Doesn't Europe have an entity similar to our FDA that would test and regulate the sale of these products?

RazoRock is pure Potassium Alum. What makes our product different is...
1) It comes with a handle and screw-top lid, making storage easy and making it easier to hold; many people have dropped traditional Alum blocks when they are wet and slippery. It's also much easier for traveling.
2) The Rock is rounded on top, versus the traditional Alum block that has an edge. This make it's easier to apply to the face, especially around the jaw line and neck area.
Because of the design, it can be also used very easy as a deodorant.

The safety of parabens has been debated for a while (if you google it you will find a lot of information). I'm surely not an expert in the field but I can tell you it's not a 'Europe thing'. Most cosmetic/shaving/personal care products in the USA use parabens as a preservative. Even so-called "natural" products like Kiss my Face shave creams contain parabens.
Definitely, if someone is avoiding the use of parabens, Prep is not the right product for you.

After a few uses of Prep Cream my shaves feel smoother. More testing is needed but so far I am pleased with the product.
