I just got this off ebay. Cost me £29, so I hope it's what I think it is....

Looks like a HD, should be all brass.

I got one of these two weeks ago, and it instantly became my favourite razor. Such a smooth shave, great weight, and enough blade exposure to make light work of things. It usurped my techs for a hassle-free shave. :)

Sounds promising, I'm hoping it's the 70gramme model. If it turns out to be a miscased aluminium, it'll be going straight back on ebay. I'll post a pic when it lands.

The Al model is quite rare, I believe. I would happily trade for the heavy version if that is what you get (which I doubt).

Thanks for the offer (which I would have gladly accepted) but the razor arrived today and it's definitely not the aluminium variant. It weighs in at 70g and it's in great condition so I'm really pleased with it. The case is also in good nick and comes with the original blade dispenser. I bought this to make a quick profit and now I'm soooo tempted to keep it. PIC ADDED.

What does it say inside the head? Patent pending?

If you shave with it once, you'll keep it! :>

No it just says Made In England Gillette.

Inside the head, or under it? Inside should be the pat. number. Early examples had patent pending inside the head.

I was the second highest bidder... Congrats!

Didn't want to go too high because it seems aluminum handled HD's also came in those cases with that particular Gillette logo and stamped Pat. Pending (and I only wanted the heavier one).

Oh yes sorry, it does say "patent pending" inside the head. Would this enable me to pin down the year of manufacture?

70g and Patent Pending: must be made 1953/54. What is the date code of the blades in the dispenser?

The date code on the blade in the dispenser says "B 4". The dispenser itself has Brit Pats 694333 & 687134. Thanks for all the info.

Congrats on the nice score. I just found a nice HD razor myself . Looking forward to getting it. I am quite sure its the 70 gram verson as well.
