EJ super medium
Proraso Green
Dovo 6/8 (saturday from an old 7 day set)
WTG, XTG x 2
Finish with Feather in a Superspeed (ATG)

Nivea Sensitive ASB
I finally got the thing honed and stropped good enough to pass the hanging hair test, but it was still tugging. I'm sure I can get it sharper with more practice. I picked up this orphan Dovo, T1 Spartacus 5/8 square point, 3" latigo strop and an oil hone at a flea market for $25. I'd say I got a deal. The saga begins.

Post Mortem on last week's use of the Merkur: I got acceptable shaves, but from day one, the blade felt like it was tugging at my face. No nicks, but not BBS either. Not as bad as the US Personnas, but not as good as the Israeli Personnas.
I tried subbing alum in for the Thayer's Lemon Astringent this morning. Interesting. It definitely felt my face feel tighter, and there was a slight tingle around my adams apple (always the toughest spot to shave). I'll run with it this week and see how things play out.

Yikes. Double yikes. I tore my neck all to pieces with my first pass on "9" on the Fatboy. Severe redness, pain, and bumps! I don't recall ever getting razor bumps before .... hope they're not ingrown hairs!!
On a completely unrelated sidenote, the Booster Polar Ice is indeed an Aqua Velva clone... just as wonderful, and just as effective!!

This was the first time I've shaved with this razor, but it'll be the last shave with this blade (4th time). Still, a good shave.
This was also my first shave with the "Anise & Lavender" shaving soap (it arrived yesterday, along with a tub of "Fresh Lime"). Tons of lather, "bloated" beard, wonderful lubrication on the first pass.
However; beginning with the second pass, the feel was astringent, and became almost uncomfortably so on the third pass. That is, even though I use a hot-towel between passes, before re-lathering my face, it felt as though my skin "tightened-up" and the lubricating qualities of the soap were "counteracted". Still, I ended-up with a BBS shave and no nicks, cuts, or scrapes.
The usual three passes: WTG, ATG, and XTG. Now, once again, I am ready to go to the gym, and "put my best face forward."

Mike - who is that???
Ellen Barkin...I highly recommend her movie "Mercy" or "Diner"
From Wiki :
Barkin became a notable actress in the 1980s. Her break out role was in Barry Levinson's Diner (1982) where she received favorable reviews in the media.
She appeared in several successful films including the thrillers Sea of Love, opposite Al Pacino (1989), and The Big Easy (1987) with Dennis Quaid.
Barkin also appeared in the theatre in New York, mostly off-Broadway plays. New York Times critic Frank Rich summarized her performance in the play Eden Court this way: "If it were really possible to give the kiss of life to a corpse, the actress Ellen Barkin would be the one to do it. In Eden Court, the moribund play that has brought her to the Promenade Theater, Miss Barkin is tantalizingly alive from her bouncing blond ponytail to the long legs that gyrate wildly and involuntarily every time an Elvis Presley record plays on stage."[3]
She has also done work in made-for-television films like Before Women Had Wings (1987) and The White River Kid (1999). Currently she voices the start of each Theme Time Radio Hour with host Bob Dylan on XM's "Deep Tracks."

I know now why I use a DE. The sensor felt like it was tugging the whole time, even though the lather was as slick as it could be, and I did good prep. The shave was a little faster, but not anywhere as close or satisfying.

This was my first shave with the Fresh Lime shaving soap (it arrived yesterday, along with a tub of Anise & Lavender). Tons of lather, "bloated" beard, wonderful lubrication on the first pass.
However; beginning with the second pass, both the lather and lubrication weakened, and I found myself re-charging the brush with soap, in order to make that second pass. Similarly, for the third pass. Still, I ended-up with a BBS shave and no nicks, cuts, or scrapes.
The usual three passes: WTG, ATG, and XTG. Now, once again, I am ready to go to the gym, and "put my best face forward."

I got the Sweet Almond Oil in the jar for a total of just over £8 off Ebay, and it was delivered this morning. Top, top cream, probably the best amongst those I have tried so far. As a bonus, I also discovered that I have a Crabtree and Evelyn shop not far from me, so I envisage a visit down there over this weekend to try one of their other creams (probably Nomad) and get the others as samplers. Also fancy their Nomad balm too.
Any day now I am also expecting a package containing a 1962 Super Speed and a 1960 Fatboy  Can't wait to get them.

I swore off Derby, but was compelled to use it again today. Really great shave, especially when shaving near my adams apple, with the Feather I felt like I was shaving with a scalpel, where as the Derby felt very gentile. eShave ASB needs a big red warning sticker against using too much, I had to man handle my face to get the ASB to absorb, my face looked like I dipped it into plaster for 5 minutes.

If there's anybody in the UK who hasn't tried this, and likes a bit of menthol and cooling sensation, then I highly recommend the Ingram. I've just had a superb shave, no nicks, cuts or bleeders. My skin feels lovely and cool, smooth and moisturised. Like the scent too. For £1.99, you can't beat this. For a shave it's up there with the best I've had from the high end creams.
Nicely set up for my poker evening tonight. Going to act cool...like my shave  :thumbup1:

Maybe it's got something to do with Friday being "Erev Shabbat" (the eve of the Jewish Sabbath), but since I began using this "Holy Trinity" of razor, blade, and shaving cream (as listed, above), I have always had a relaxed, enjoyable half-hour, and come away with a BBS shave, looking-and-smelling like the proverbial "million dollars".
Now I'm going to the gym, to work-out. I know it's not fair, but if those other guys are too "macho?" to shave before working-out, instead of after, well, who cares?

Baby boy born 27th March. SWMBO told me that she didn't want him getting confused as to how his daddy smells so I had to choose what shaving stuff to stick with for the next month or two...
(In the style of Jessie's Diets on The Fast Show):
This season I shall be exclusively using Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet.
Shaving soap
After shave balm
Eau d'toilette *
Shower gel *
Shampoo *
Deoderant *
Soap *
Personally, I reckon I smell great!
* -- ordered as the travel pack online.
I must say that the Penhaligon's mail order service is 5*/Platinum/Plus. Despatch was within 24 hours. Packaging was excessive and neat. The box was wrapped in two layers on Penhaligon's tissue paper with precision never seen before. This was placed in a piece of foam cut to the exact size required. The foam fitted snugly in a box sealed with tape on every edge and corner. Finally the whole box with a neat label was despatched in a courier bag. Wow.
So, with apologies I shall not be posting here for a few months until the BB supplies run out....

Gents, get your hands on a puck of the Sandalwood Rose soap, this stuff smells amazing and shaves very well. Surprisingly the gamble I played by using the Pinaud worked great and did not overwhelm either the ASB, the soap's lingering silage nor the EDT (which also paired well).
I'm glad my experiments paid off today!!

Baby boy born 27th March. SWMBO told me that she didn't want him getting confused as to how his daddy smells so I had to choose what shaving stuff to stick with for the next month or two...
This season I shall be exclusively using Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet.
Congrats Doc...and if you had to choose one scent I think you made a pretty good decision!

Congratulations, Doc! You'll be needing one of these in a few days.
Naturally, you should go with an extra large.

I usually don't shave on Saturday, but darn it, when I got up this morning I really felt like shaving, so I did! More thanks to Kyle -- my prep and technique have improved so much, that I've gotten to enjoy shaving! I look forward to the 30-minutes it takes for a deliberate and methodical shave (and sometimes find myself going even slower, just to s-t-r-e-t-c-h it out.
That QED "Anise & Lavender"... it builds a tremendous amount of thick, rich, good smelling, and lubricating lather. Forty swirls of a damp shaving brush (lightly, very little pressure) "charged" that puppy, and I lathered on my face (as usual), adding dribs 'n drabs of hot water, as necessary. Did I mention the smell? So good! After my normal three passes, there was enough left for another two more!
I'd be nowhere, without all you guys and the tremendous amount of information and encouragement you've shared with me and so many others.
I say: "It beats the hell outta fantasy football/baseball/basketball/hockey!"

I'm an open minded guy. And since I shave at night, I almost passed on shaving since I got home just before midnight. So I thought I would try something different!
http://www.badgerandblade.com/gallery/displayimage.php?imageid=6770
Something quick and easy. But which one to use? Oh, the decisions we face as shavers. I could not decide. So, time for a coin toss.
To make it easy, heads for a Quattro, tails would be the Sensor.
I tossed a shiny new quarter. It was almost like it was stuck in the air, turning over and over, finally dropping to it's resting place.
I have to admit, I didn't like the outcome.
It landed on edge!
http://www.badgerandblade.com/gallery/displayimage.php?imageid=6771
I've got to admit, the shave was close. The razor burn was outstanding, and when followed by a splash of Old Spice...yowza!
Randy
Sometimes you don't want to mess around, you just want a clean shave with no hassle. That's when I pick up the Braun. Its self-cleaning base station means no muss, no fuss, unlike my PITA Vision that's caked in layers upon layers of soap scum (ick).

This was my first attempt with a shaving soap, and overall it went well. I loaded the brush on the Tabac in a ceramic jar and built lather in a bowl. How do you all clean up when you use a shave soap? Do you just let the small amount of lather on the soap dry up, or do you rinse it off before putting the lid back on? Thanks.

A very "cool" shave. 20 minutes later and I can still feel the cooling effect of everything. Pretty smooth shave. :thumbup1: This was the first time I've used a Merkur since the second week I started shaving with a DE -- can't tell why they are so frowned up really. I probably won't buy more because I get shaves that are just as good from the cheaper Derby's, but I won't kick em to the curb.
