so i have been wet shaving for about a week and a half now.
prior to that i had been using a fusion and just canned gel

i had looked into wet shaving a couple years back, but only made the jump recently after reading a thread on the bodybulding forums about traditional wet shaving.

went onto ebay and bought a merkur HD, sample pack of blades, and a tube of tabac cream. i also picked up at a chemist some witch hazel, nivea post shave balm, and a windsor boar brush.

i shave every second day, unless im feeling lazy and wait another day.
my hair is really tough and i find it hard to get a really smooth shave without slicing the crap outta my face.

iv watched all of mantics videos. theyr very helpful. still getting my technique down.

would also really like to get into straight shaving one day. or even buy something like a feather ac to save me honing and stropping. any opinions on that?

anyway, heres some of my setup

Outstanding equipment to begin with. I hope you try and enjoy straight shaving as well.

My recommendation is that you use a true straight razor without disposable blades so you can experience the real thing. If you make the kind of choices you made with your DE setup, you're going to do just fine.

Again, welcome to B&B mate! I too started on a Merkur HD, it's a great razor and one I will hold onto and keep in rotation. Which blades did you start on?

started on the astra platinums. then tried the sharks, and today i used a derby
noticed a fair bit of tugging with the derbys, even with a very light grip and little to no pressure.

Welcome to B&B!

If you want to get into straight razors, you're at the right place. Some like the shavette and some prefer the real straight. I'm in the second category.

I tried both and thing that a real straight is easier to use and more forgiving. Honing is only once in a while and stropping takes around 5 minutes.

I would suggest this as a first read: http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/index.php/Getting_started_wetshaving

If you have any questions, don't be shy!

anywhere good round melbourne to pick up supplies? i was looking in a local Shaver Shop the other day, they didnt have a great selection of stuff.

would like to try some different soaps and aftershaves. thats really what makes wet shaving soo much more enjoyable for me than cartridge shaving, the scents :biggrin1:

Welcome to B&B!:001_smile
By the way, nice starter shaving kit! I'd consider adding Tabac soap, which is MUCH better than the cream.

Sorry can't help you there (in Cairns) -but if you ever head this way make sure you bring your own gear because there's not much on offer up herein the way of specialty shaving stores.
All my shopping is internet :thumbup1:

As a fellow newbie, my advice is to have a look at http://www.mensbiz.com.au/ there is a b&b discount coupon which is from memory: bb2010. From my dealings they have great service and for me at least, next day delivery! They also have i believe a store front not far from richmond station

Congratulations and welcome to the B&B. You have a fine starting kit. Once you begin to master your technique, you may want to try other soaps and aftershaves. I think Proraso has an excellent range of products that is inexpensive, while offering high quality.

Welcome to B&B!

You have some really nice gear there. As far as shopping is concerned, I'm on the other side of the world from you but I've had to resign myself to purchasing the really good stuff by mail.

hows the straight going?

the derbys i used the other day were awful. face was very red right after, and looked horrible a few hours later.

used gillette 7 oclocks today. pretty good
