View Full Version : Anyone else hit by the Proglide shortage?

I ordered a Proglide Power from Amazon for $2.50 w/ FS about 4 weeks ago when they went crazy with coupon offers.
I'm in no hurry to try this beast since I have many DE blades on my bucket list. But I promised my more contemporary shaving friends I would try it before I knocked it. I owe it to them before any further criticizing and proselytizing. For less than the cost of one Proglide cartridge, I had no excuse.
I am beginning to wonder if I will ever see this classic, timeless, "razor to end all razors" razor.
Anyone else been hit by this Amazon Proglide backorder crisis?
Thanks,
B

I got a freebie in the mail; gave it a go; it'll stay in the back of the cabinet now until some hot place freezes over, but since it'll be cold then maybe I'll grow a beard.

Please please PLEASE tell me you're just being facetious. Otherwise I'm going to have to order at least another 400 to add to the 400 I bought a couple of weeks ago.

I think the Proglide is a new lawnmower. Hey, that reminds me, I got a wicked case of poison ivy after mowing a couple of weeks ago. Dot and me can't have kids cause there's something wrong with my semen.

That has to speak to marketing genius, I gotta hand it to Gillette/P&G.
Although I haven't tried the proglide, I have tried the fusion and it's not very impressive.

No, but sourcing those personna plat plus p's are getting to be a real challenge.
And fighting the urge to get a Feather SS for almost 2 bills is in fact keeping me up at night.
And ... there must be another soap ... somewhere ... in some exotic locale ... made with secret special ingredients ... that I HAVE NOT TRIED AND MUST.

Nope, not me! I bought a bunch of fusion blades last year and did not get through the all before I started using DEs.
I can't knock you for trying the proglide, even though I never would. That is open minded and a fair way to compare with your Gillette brainwashed friends!
Good luck and if I were you, I wouldn't be in any rush to try it out. Maybe you could take a cheese grater to your face to toughen it up for the beating it will take for the proglide!:lol:

I would rather use an *Filtered Vendor* (http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/index.php/Banned_Filtered_Vendor) razor or buy something from *Filtered Vendor* (http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/index.php/Banned_Filtered_Vendor) than a proglide.

YES, it hit me hard. I am not taking it well at all.
It is so hard because it makes me sad to think that there are so many people out there still shaving with butter knives. But then I thought, oh maybe they are not making those anymore and going out of business! We can start sending people door to door to preach the good word called DE.
Sooooo.......no.

In defense of the OP (who I hope is taking all of this in the good humor that it is intended) - We are all about traditional wet shaving.
Wet shaving means water, soap / cream and a brush.
Choice of razor is not so important, be it straight, shavette, DE, SE or even (gasp!) cart razors.
Though many here prefer the old school razors in their arsenal, nothing at all wrong with using a cart razor with a good soap or cream and a nice brush if it gives you good shaves!
Cheers!

Hey I like cartridge shaving. Viva Sensor Excel!!

So, is there a consensus among the group?
Apparently I am the only one in my boat! As for the questions regarding: "why ask about cartridge on a traditional wetshaving forum?"
Please realize my comment was mostly (>90%) tongue in cheek. I am not actually concerned with the absence of my Gillette Proglide. I just found it funny that Amazon has been backordered for nearly a month when there clearly is no shortage of this razor (hence the implicit irony of my comment).
That said, I have only been a DE shaver for 6 weeks after an 8 year wetshaving sabbatical due to cartridge induced discomfort. Still, I believe that this community should welcome wetshavers of all razors. DE shavers should not exclude our cartridge shaving brethren simply because they remove their whiskers in a manner that differs from what works their faces.
Your brother in blood,
B

I also got a free Proglide when they were first released. I still haven't brought myself to try it out. I think I will keep it in its original packaging. Hopefully, it will be worth something to my grandchildren when they go to sell it on whatever passes for ebay 50 years from now. I doubt those who bought a $5 President years ago thought they would be going for $300 down the road. On second thought, a NOS proglide may be laughed at in 50 years.

Maybe Amazon should go to the Target store near my house; the shelves are overflowing with the dratted things. After my experiment with the Fusion, I have absolutely no desire to try the ProGlide; should I receive a free one by some unfortunate mischance, you're welcome to it.

At my local Target, I saw a big ridiculous Proglide Fusion neon light display. They are very plentiful there, I would say they have a plethora of Proglides, hopefully it stays that way, as in it doesn't sell. I put in for one of those free ones and it is the epitome of crap. I will never shave with this thing. I think I'll just hold onto it and a guest could use it or something or maybe I'll use it to shave a beret...it'll probably clog though, just like the M3 does.
