When I first got serious about DE shaving I was surprised to see so many DE blades that carry the Gillette name but which are not made in the U.S. In particular, there are a number of Gillette branded razor blades under the 7 O'CLOCK label. Some are made in India and some in Russia. Which blade, if any, do you like the best - and if you have any comments, why?

I dig the Perma Sharps because they are incredibley smooth, very sharp, and are still fairly inexpensive. For some reason the Yellow's didn't agree with me at all. Gillette Super Thins were very nice as well.

I can't say that I've used one of the 7 O'Clock blades yet, but the Russian Astra blades are made by P&G. I found them workable, but not great.

Of the 7 O'Clocks I prefer the Indian Super Platinums. Expensive but good. Another nice blade is the Super Thin (Thai) by Gillette. Not much of a Gillette blades fan myself but these two are really nice with the Indian blacks a bit sharper and nicer than the Super Thins.

I like the Russian Greens better than the Yellow sharpedge blades, but those are the only two types I have used.

I've only tried the Russian greens and they gave me some of the worse shaves ever. Still want to try the yellows and blacks at some point.

I have both of these too but consider giving the India Permasharps a try I have a feeling you might like them too, its smooth

Gillette India also carries the Wilkinson Sword brand in India and manufactures blade in the lower cost spectrum.

So in the order of cost and hence the supremacy of sharpness !

Wilkinson Sword Saloon
Wilkinson Sword Stainless
Wilkinson Sword Premium Plus (Chromium coated for smoother shaves)
7 O'Clock Permasharp Greens
7 O'Clock Super Platinum Blacks

The Super Platinum Blacks on the higher end of the spectrum cost 4x the Wikinson Swords on the lower end of the spectrum, the permasharp greens are middle of the line price point blades from the Gillette India factory.

Note : The branding for the Indian Permasharp blades is changing. They will now be called Sharp Edge in line with their Russian cousins.

India Black (Super Platinum) are my favorite of these. I got five shaves with one loaded in my Merk 1904>
Second place goes to India Green (PermaSharp).

Yellows don't agree with me. Too much irritation, which I take to mean that they are to sharp for me.

Haven't tried the Russian Greens yet.

For the money, I prefer the Super Stainless from India. The the 7 O'clock SharpEdge are nicer (and better) but I prefer other blades for the same money.

Just ordered a pack of Green Super Stainless Russian 7 O'Clocks to try out. No experience from them yet.

I like the yellow SharpEdge best of all but have recently switched to Iridiums which are sharper then the Gillettes and I believe sharper then a "feather" blade too. Iridiums are great blades!

I just tried the Russian Greens this morning and I have to say it wasn't a very comfortable shave. Although the shave was fairly close, I've gotten a closer smoother shave from a Trig blade. I have yet to try the yellows or blacks, but I will.

Mannish:

If you know, what is the difference, if any, between the Permasharp Green and their Russian cousins?

None of the Gillette blades work for me. but if I only had to choose from current Gillette blades it would be the Russian Black.

I use both the erstwhile Permasharp as well as the Russian greens. Both are almost at par to me in a flair tip or a slant or a any other razor. However I would like to state a small difference in that the Indians are smoother to me than the Russians.

What I strongly dislike about the Russians are the big blotches of glue which almost go over to the edge at times and becomes a time consuming effort to clean the edge.

The black Indians are way over both the greens. They are almost double the price of the greens in India and way superior.

There are only Indian blacks (my profile photo) and there are Russian Yellows apart form the greens. There are a few blues from some place which I am not an expert on.

I also have some stock of Gillette Super Nacet blades which I had picked up from Malaysia and is local to that market. Very disappointing and dull blades. Of course YMMV.

Me too. The Indian green/permasharp is a good blade.

In another forum a member photographed them both under a microscope. It seems as though P&G is maintaining standards across its product range. The Indian and Russian blades were ground using the same technique; there was no more apparent difference than might occur amongst production runs from one month to another in the same factory.

And even so, each, as you see in this thread, has its fan base! :001_rolle

Really love the Indian Blacks. The Yellows are good, but not great, and will not buy them again after I finish my 2 remaining blades.

Tried my first shave with the Russian Yellows yesterday. Wow, what a sharp blade. Got a nice close shave - but a little irritation around the neck. Will try again today. I am sure the irritation was caused by me - a telephone call interrupted my shave! :mad3:

Second shave with the Russian Yellows was incredibly good. Mixed up some MWF and Godrej Menthol Mist with glycerin and went to work. This time no interruptions and the shave was BBS with no nicks, irritation, or burn. One of the closest and smoothest shave I have ever had. Used my FB.

Tuesday will be the same blade and razor with a mixture of Mama Bear's unscented with Gillette menthol. Wednesday it will be MWF and the Gillette.

Gillette super platinum all the way baby!
It gives me the same smooth shave as a feather does, without the irritation!

Well, two more shave with the Russian Yellows. These are GREAT blades. They give my Personna Reds a run for the money.

Which Russian blade? The Super Stainless (green) or the Sharp Edge (yellow)?

I'm sold on Russian Yellers. The best combo of sharpness, smoothness, and durability. The only other Gillette I've tried is the Indian Black and I still found the Yellers the blade for me.

After shaving with a couple of the above blades, I ordered a year's supply. They blow Derby out of the water for me.
