With all the fun being had with the great value of Frank Shaving brushes from China it is worth remembering that they need to shave a lot of people every day and so must have a pretty big production of razors, some of which make it sometimes to the west.
These are the Chinese brands I have come across:
Weishi
Shenglong
SHV65
Timor
Ming Shi
Flying Eagle
Does anyone have any information on these or on any other Chinese razors? There could be some fun, low cost, experimenting to be had here.

I got a Flying Eagle razor off of eBay for 99 cents plus $5 for shipping. I used it with some Blue Bird blades that I had from a recent buy on BST and got a great shave from the razor.

Chinese - Razor - Fun - Experimenting. Not four words usually found together :w00t:
Had a Weishi - wasn't bad. Wasn't great either.....

Concord 3 piece razors are from China. Got one and it does pretty well. Lot like a Tech. I use it as my vacation/travel razor.

I've got a Flying Eagle Tech clone in a little box with a fish hologram on the lid.
Open up the box and there is a mirror on a springloaded hinge that has space on the back for a blade. The razor is held in a red plastic tray, and is about halfway between a travel Tech and a full size handle. It shaves OK, but with the aluminum handle it is a little light for my tastes.
It's a funky little package.

Besides the Ming Shi, Flying Eagle, and Weishi (the Weishi being debatable) there seems to be very little in the razor market made in China that is actually usable. I have seen a lot of Chinese, and Indian made razors on Ebay that were 100% useless, and would rip your face to pieces if you attempted to shave with them.
I have no interest in wasting my money on sub-par pieces, and worst yet ripping my face up with them.

Just as a heads up, that is actually the same razor being referred to above as the Ming Shi. :w00t:
I have owned two of them in the past, and found the Ming Shi to be vastly superior to the Weishi (which is so mild I find it to be useless).
There is also the Vincent which according to the review, isn't worth it either. I've heard that the quality of the Parker razors have improved. So I've heard.

I wonder if part of that is the Chinese tendency to minimal body hair. Less hair, maybe a milder razor would be preferred.

The Shenglong that I have is a Superspeed copy and it is awful. Do not buy and do not use.
Everyone knows the Weishi, another SS copy, a lovely piece of engineering. Gives a great shave when you find the right angle.
There are some eBay Buy it Nows for Chinese razors.
The Flying Eagle (which they also call a Kwang Yung) with the drop down mirror box: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Older-Kwang-Yung-SAFETY-RAZOR-KIT-w-MIRROR-FLYING-EAGLE-/250367765154
The Ming Shi which is on my buy list!: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ming-Shi-Double-Edge-Safety-Razor-Derby-Shaver-Derby-/370255940728 I think this one could be interesting.
The SHV65, which could be one of the others with a different name put on it. Or not. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SHV65-Safety-Razor-Gunmetal-/360208031775
Concord razors can be bought very cheaply indeed: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1-x-Concord-Double-Edge-Safety-Razor-w-o-blades-NIP-/280497110109
There are plenty of Vincents on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-VINCENT-DOUBLE-EDGE-SHAVING-SAFETY-RAZOR-DORCO100PC-/380259392218
And finally the Nanjie: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NANJIE-SAFETY-RAZOR-CHROMEPLATED-5-Gillette-Blades-/270568141827
The Timor razors are sold by an English shaving retailer who I think is banned here.
So that is, potentially, 9 different Chinese razors so far! A change from using the ubiquitous Merkurs and Gillettes and pretty cheap to buy. It would be interesting to get more comparisons and reviews.
Does anyone have any more information on these or any other Chinese razors?

I just bought a Concord from Singapore. At that price it would be rude not to.
I will report back on it when it arrives.

I saw one at a store here, I think it was something like 1.75 Euro .
Then I picked it up, opened and closed the TTO head. I just put it back and got out... Very poor quality :thumbdown.

There was enough here to set me off on writing an article about these razors. During my research I cam up with the following picture of the Flying Eagle range of razors at a Hong Kong wholesaler: http://www.hhlhk.com/website/index.files/page0009.htm
The coloured handle ones in the modern box (not the embossed tin) are sold by the Hong Kong ebay vendor nutnutretail who also sells Weishi razors.

My statement was a little broad sweeping, but the point is on the whole, there are far more horrible quality razors made in China, and India than good ones: I have seen razors with horribly huge blade gaps, horrible unequal blade exposures, and worst yet, even some razors where there was no attempt made by the manufacture to clean up the casting, thus the parts still had jagged sharp edges!!:blink:

I think that manufacturing is far more advanced in China than it is in India and Pakistan.
About half of the world's manufacturing now is in China. If we can trust them to make our iPods, our computers and our digital cameras then surely we can trust them to make simple things like razors and brushes. The Weishi, I know, is extremely well engineered. All those precision aluminium parts. And when it comes to brushes very, very few badger knots are made outside China now. Even very big name brushes which you think have Western made knots don't.
I admit that China does churn out some junk, but then every manufacturing nation does.
There are possibly more DE shavers in China than the rest of the world put together. All these shavers need kit, so China has a big industry to serve traditional shavers. We in the West can benefit from this with variety of products available and by the very competitive pricing.
btw I have found a tenth brand of Chinese razor. Shogun. A Tech with a shorter handle than the Concord, dridiot on eBay sells both at very low prices.

$29 shipped buys entirely too much razor to ever go there. As always, caveat emptor to those cruising the bay.

I have a concord/vincent and a weishi.
The concord is a Tech clone and shaves ok just a tad more aggresive than a Tech, not used it that often and no problems to report.
The vincent is a SS clone and shaves very aggressive, mine does not have unequal blade gaps, used it a few times no problems but this baby does bit back.
The weishi, well we all know about them, makes a Tech/SS feel like a British Red Tip, it is the mildest razor I have every used, I gave it to my 16 year old and he says its to mild and he only has peach fluff.

The Junjie reviewed in B&B is a TTO. The Uxcell $3.99 razor is a Tech.

While we know it is possible for China to make top quality items, there may not always be the incentive to do so.
A razor, or brush doesn't have a high profit margin associated with it, like an ipod/computer/digital camera does. It also doesn't have a huge worldwide company backing it's production that is demanding top quality.
While it is possible that they can make a top quality razor, there certainly doesn't appear to be many made. While you may sing the praises of the Weishi, they do have quality control issues on occasion, and I think it's mildness makes it a useless razor.
I think the Ming Shi/ Shaving Factory/ Derby is a much better built item but they suffer from quality control on occasion as well.

Flying Eagle is (part of) Gillette Shanghai
Today I saw some of these at a hardware store that sells Chinese safety razors. They used to have the Nanjie and another useless 2 Euro razor, now they have a new one similar to these ones for 2 euros:
http://www.uxcell.com/portable-mens-manual-double-edge-razor-with-blue-handle-p-51601.html
and another one that looks like this for 4.40:

LOLLLLLLLLL. I bought a chinese "Big Roc" for my brother last Christmas. When I unboxed it to have a shave before ofering to my brother, I had to go out and buy a Merkur instead. The chrome plating on the Big Roc was chipped.
I must say, this RIMEI DE razor is simply amazing for its price.
It is a light one, but has excellent finish, the blade fits perfectly centered and delivers a very nice shave, on the milder side but not so mild as Weishi.
Even if it costs 3 or 4 times its price would be a great deal.

I had a Weishi TTO. That sorry POS started bubbling, flaking and rusting to the point of being unusable, so I had to throw it away. That was the beginning and the end of my foray into Chinese razors.

Just joined, and wanted to share my experience. I wanted to dabble in the DE world, and found a Vincent TTO at a beauty supply store in Duluth, GA (very high Korean population). I've used it for three weeks now, and it out performs my typical disposable razors, but is nothing to write home about. And due to a mixup with Amazon, I was shipped a Diane TTO to my AZ residence. I just gave it a try today, and not bad at all. No Knicks with this one either. With that said, I'll be making my big boy order here in a few minutes for something that will actually last.
