View Full Version : Text Input Slowdown

When I enter text, as for posting a new thread (exactly as I'm doing right now) or inputing a reply to a thread or PMing, everything slows down drastically. I'll wait 30-60 seconds for a sentence I typed to appear on the screen.

Is this indicitive of the site or just my crappy computer? Has anyone else noticed this?

It's either your computer or ISP. Are you on Dial Up Modem or high speed digital?

I've never run into a situation like that on any site but then my computer is only a year old and I'm on cable service that is generally lightening fast. You may occassionally run into a situation where the "intenet crawls" but I haven't seen much of that either. It used to be more prolific in the mid-90's.
I'm sure that we have some clean shaven computer guys here that can offer you some help.

Then, I'm thinking that it's your computer.

Sounds like your computer has a virus/trojan infection and is being used as an illegal proxy to send massive amounts of spam around the world. =(

It maybe something running in the background, try rebooting and see if the problem persists.

This would be my guess.

There is no interaction between the server and your computer when you're typing a message. When you click a smiley, or use certain features, then there will be some transfer, but just typing a sentence is done completely on your computer.

First, I'd try clearing my cache, then if that didn't work, if I was using the enhanced editor interface, I'd go into my User CP and change it to the basic, no frills editor. If that didn't work, I'd try to start rooting out errant processes that are using up all your resources.

Crappy computer? I like to claim I run a Commodore 64. But it's really a prototype...the 32 model!
