I was going to bid $160 in the last seconds, but it jumped to $190. Anyone lucky enough here to win this. Also, that notch on the tang, is that normal or cosmetically added? Whatever it is it looks awesome.

I thought so too. They sure did look sweet though! I have about 20-30 blades I'm looking into restoring and will maybe have to try that on some of them.

No doubt the notch was added. The work is pretty good. For that price I should start selling off all the custom refines I've done.

I think they look pretty cool, those notches. Would that lower the value generally as they weren't original?
Oh, it weren't me that won it. My new razor allowance is more than used up!

My money is on that the notches were NOT added... :001_smile

People who would add more than one notch are mentally unstable!

Mine as well. I've seen a few old Sheffield blades that had those notches and they were rusty and unrestored.

I think I have to agree with you Luc... the design ( O+O ) and the top corner of the J are cut off so I think the notches were added. I think whoever did this must be a control freak and wants ultimate control of his razor as well
It is very nicely done and I really like the notches too :tongue_sm

I was bidding on that blade till it went over 100usd... then I watched patiently from the sidelines drooling on myself a little bit.
I'm *almost* kicking myself for not winning it... a beautiful piece regardless of if the notches were factory or part of the restoration.

Back on topic (please): I have also seen more than a few razors with this setup. All seemed to be fairly consistent with the location of the dorsal and ventral notches, so I would guess they are original.

On topic: I will be the first to admit that I said the notches looked like they were added later, but I will also be the first to admit that I know very little about all the possible features found on straight razors. So If the many very knowlegble veterans of this forum say the notches were original to the design then I will take note of that and remember it as a lesson learned. :surrender:

Enough bickering. If ya'll have problems with each other, this is not the place to air your grievances.
