Well, so far, I like the smell. I'll give it a go tomorrow when I shave and see if it lives up the hype.
I tried TOBS rose today from a sample sent by a fellow member and I really liked it a lot. It lathered nicely and it gave a good shave.

I just got a puck of this last week, and ever since my other soaps have gone unused. It is WONDERFUL stuff, and I like the smell of it.

Maybe there should be an "I Heart Tabac" Sticky where everyone that tries it and likes it can post their thoughts and feelings. Personally, I'd like to see how long such a thread becomes. This has to be the most common thread on B&B.

Yes. New members see all the references to Tabac, buy it, and create more threads, which are then seen by more new members.
Does it even matter if this soap is good anymore?

Judging from the amount of "I love Tabac" -threads, the stuff must be awesome :thumbup1:

Things can get pretty ugly for a product pretty fast if the quality fades. I seen Derbys go from shaving darlings to shaving pariahs in a span of a few months. Hyperbole seems to be the unwritten mantra of many members that provide recommendations.

Do a search for "Williams" for an example of a well known soap that does not recieve such a broad welcome......:w00t:
Go Tabac!:thumbup1:

Still pretty new to all this, but I love me some Tabac. I know I have not tried most of the various soaps and creams out there, but I can't beat the quality of lather that I can get out of this product. On the plus side, I love the scent as well.

It was my second ever shave soap (after the IMHO abysmal TOBS lavender), adn it was love at first swirl....:biggrin1:

FWIW Tabac has pretty much become my go-to shaving soap along with the rest of the line-up (AS, ASB, & Cologne).
It can get a touch overpowering at times so I don't use it every day but I would imagine that it comes high up there amongst my most used soaps.
What I like about the TABAC line of products is that it's available to buy off the shelf here in the UK whereas most wet-shaving products have be purchased mail order. That in itself is a big selling point.

Great thing about tabac is how easy it is too lather.
I notice that if i take too long with it, this nasty scent starts coming from it.
Anyone else experienced this?
A kind of meaty smell

If you are face lathering and getting a meaty smell after too long, I'd say you need to find a brush that's a bit less exfoliating!
I like the stuff:001_smile

I could possibly be the exception to the rule. Possibly because out of the three days I have had my Tabac I have enjoyed it and been annoyed by it. The lather was great, the shave was great, but something about the afterscent leaves me a bit off? Am I alone in this feeling? The first day I felt comfortable with the scent. Day two...ehhh. Day three back to okay. I enjoyed the shave enough to ride it out a bit.
I love the bowl as well.
I like Tabac, it beats the crap out of Williams. I don't use it all the time but I go on a rip where I will use just it for about 2 weeks before switching to something else. As for a funky after scent, I've never noticed one when I use it.

I'll clarify my statement and say it isn't funky enough for me to think it would be a universal dislike. Just something about it doesn't always sit great with me. I am new at this so I am a bit obsessive. I just got a new budget brush (Omega Boar) that I wanted to try so I did a wasteful lather of the Tabac and enjoyed it. I wish I was more versed in scents to better explain it. Something in the almost gunpowder smell afterscent.
The funny thing is that my first landlord always reeked of Tabac (8 years ago). Now I know the scent. I am a bit sensitive of smells so I suppose something like smelling overloads of any scent can turn me off a bit. Still I like it enough to ride it out.
Anybody have a good recommendation for a similar product in a more woodsy, sandalwood scent?

Now that's a tough one. There are many types of sandalwood scent out there. Purists on the forum have argued that almost all are wrong. I have 3 in cream form. First is C&E Sandalwood. The second is AoS which is different from the C&E. And 3rd is ToBS which similar to AoS. Your best bet is to go to the review section, open a beer and dig in.

I loves me some Tabac as well. In addition, my fiance likes it the most out of my current collection. So end of story - it's the best for me!

I shaved with Tabac this morning in fact - love the performance but not a fan of the scent (nor is my wife unfortunately; says I smell like an "old man"). Regardless of the scent I can't seem to quit using it and in fact when it's not stored away will often pick it up and give it a smell. Almost as if to see/hope that I suddenly enjoy the aroma. Still the same!
Haven't tried Irisch Moos yet but, if in fact it performs the same, but has a fresher rather than muskier scent that may be the ticket for me.
Congrats to all those that like the aroma - I really hope to join your ranks one day as it definitely shaves like a champ!

My favorite soap. Great smell and, for me, produces the best lather out of every soap I've tried.

I get oodles of lovely scented lather from my new Tabac soap... very nice. Even purchased a small bottle of the EDC to compliment it. I can certainly understand why some don't like the smell, but I love it and, more importantly, my girlfriend likes it too!
