I just saw this Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKhDdVsu9o0&mode=related&search=) tonight on youTube, I fall off of my chair. I'm just discusting about what I saw. The marketing hype, the artificial glamor, and at the end, you will see how Gillette don't care about the art of shaving at all, the real ritual, the LOST art, and how this company is now a true joke. I'm still shocked :a35: I think I will never buy a replacement cartridge for my fusion, I use Fusion and DE, and find that Fusion give me a great shave, but now, I think to put my Fusion in the garbage after my last blade after seeing how this company is so....I can't find my words.

Hey, I am a Gillette customer (1961 Fatboy) and I was not invited to the party. I'm insulted. Sort of. Well, not really. I have no intention of using a Fusion, heated or otherwise.
One hundred flavors of vodka and using the old MC5 song (as hairy a bunch as you will ever see, 40 years ago) "Kick Out the Jams." For us in fly over country that seemed all so over the top.

We need to thank the current Gillette administration for finally freeing men around the world from the shackles of multi blade shaving into the liberating arms of traditional wet shaving.
If that video does not accomplish that nothing will!!!

Some thoughts, but I must say first, the cleavage certainly caught my attention. It is a shame the guy did not really benefit from the view as much as the camera.
Hey, what is so surprising about the video? Do you think men's shaving products were ever solely about the efficiency of the product? I mean King Gillette is referenced in marketing texts-- the "Razor Model" - giving the handle away for free so people will buy the blades.
I got a free Fusion (non powered) in the mail. With proper prep it gives a decent shave. I have an issue with the size of a head with anything other than 2 or at most 3 blades, and I also think for these multi-blade systems a pivoting head works best, which is why when I do not have time for my DE I use my Sensor.
So my opinion is that if the product was completely worthless then the promo event would be a travesty. The product is OK, just like any product not as good as the manufacturer would like you to think it is. It is not a travesty, just another attempt by corporate marketing to sway the general public's thinking and to discourage them from thinking for themselves. Ooh, how cool are we, we have this razor with a sleek BLACK HANDLE!
We have super premium ice cream, coffee, cold cuts, etc.. Gillette sees I am sure an uptick in the sales of premium shave creams, Nancy Boy, etc.. So, they are positioning the heated Fusion as the super premium shave, I guess. In order to do this they need to generate "buzz" (ouch!). Most consumer product companies crowd the supermarket and drug store shelves with as many variations of their product as they can in order to crowd out other manufacturers.
What bothers me is their complete domination of the mind share of men who shave. Most men who I share my DE hobby with are a little surprised, and need to get their mind wrapped around the concept. Of the men I have ventured to share my hobby with, at least a dozen, not one of them has taken me up on my offer to give them a handle and some cream so they can try for themselves. That is the power of habit and marketing, or they just think I am strange. Probably both.
For me, if Gillette comes out with a multi-blade system which seems to provide a closer shave, I will certainly try it-- but not because of marketing hype, just because I want a close shave. Time permitting, nothing beats the experience of a sharp DE blade against your face. I don't see myself ever giving that up.

I guess everybody missed THIS (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?p=182651&highlight=phantom#post182651) post from last month. Actually there were a couple of threads about it but that was the main one. Gillette's just a bunch of hosebags these days. OOOO a "black" razor, nobody's ever thought of that before.
Even less thrilling the second time around :thumbdown

You've been using the fusion and the reason you refuse to buy more cartridges is a handle color change...?
I really think Gillette gets a much worse rap than they deserve on these boards. They're a company. The reason that they've abandoned the real ritual of shaving is because the majority of their customers have also. Yeah, the big event for a color change is kinda silly, but Gillette needs to make it look like they're "innovating" to make sure people keep buying their stuff, and you really can't do much innovating as far as safety razors go. Hence the color change for the phantom.

And who pay for this kind of stupid campaign and all advertisement? Us when we buy cartridge at an astronomic price. The day Merkur will do the same with his HD razor or blade and they'll charge $100 for a HD to pay campaign and R&D, and have event with a girl in a babydoll, who don't know how to shave a face (And the goal IS to sell stuff to SHAVE a face), trust me, I'll turn my back too :sneaky2:

I don't think that the majority of men abandoned the ritual of shaving. I think it was more of Gillette convincing men that we should abandon older styles of shaving implements and adopt the newer styles to be hip and save time.
Gillette has done it in the past. Other than being a collectible, what is the value of the TTO Fatboy versus the Toggle? What is the value of the FatBoy with the dial at the top versus the dial on the bottom?
There is no true extra value in the fusion. It is only a color change and millions of men will bite on this and start paying the outrageous cartridge prices. Gillette innovation is more about Madison Avenue spin.

Yeah, I have a very low-tech answer to their "heated" blade:
1. Turn on hot water spigot.
2. Put razor under hot water stream.
3. Repeat as needed.

 I just have an idea here, what about a DE hot razor blade, let see:
1. turn on a propane torch (a BBQ tank will do)
2. heat up your DE until it's turn red
3. Deep the head of the razor little bit in nitrogen, just to cool down the temperature, else, you will have razor BURN.

It's stuff like this that makes me want to build a vibrating Merkur, just for the comic value.

you realize that the phantom doesn't actually heat up the blade right? the author of the video was guessing what this brand spanking new revolutionary system could possibly have, but he was wrong
the phantom is just a color change, nothing else, it's like taking a car repainting it and selling it as a whole new vehicle
so it doesn't even give you that...

hmmm well that's new !.... NOT!
Either wilkinson sword or Gillete made a vibrating double blade cartridge razor back in the 80's, I made the mistake of buying it, the quickest case of razor rash I have ever had!
