Howdy, my name is Cris, and I'm a new wetshaver. Had a beard for about 25 years, then shaved it when it got to be more white hairs than I wanted. Was never satisfied with the shave I got from a cartridge(generally Mach 3). Picked up a Canadian Gillette tech and some Derby blades, have managed to nick, scrape and cut myself, yet get a decent enough shave to convince myself that I need to work more on my technique. Won an assortment of razors on ebay, and have a birthyear fatboy on its way to me, so I will have a variety of razors to experiment with, once I get my tecnique down a little better.

Hope to learn what I don't know, maybe share what I do(whiskey, music and barbeque) and kibbitz a bit.

Hi Cris and welcome along.
The Derby blades are known for being very hit and miss so I'd suggest you learn on something a little more consistant and forgiving.
The Gillette 7 O'Clocks are nice in my opinion (with the Yellow ones being a touch sharper than the greens).

Of course once you have your technique down you can then experiment a huge amount more

Welcome to the good ship B&B. Take a stroll on the promenade deck and enjoy the voyage. :thumbup1:

BTW: On the Fatboy be sure to not crank it up to the most aggressive shave when you first use the razor. A lot of people use a 3 or a 4 on average and use a multi-pass approach. I love my Slim and Super Adjustables because you can adjust that aggressiveness for each razor type.

Enjoy!

Welcome! Might I suggest a blade sampler pack from such fine B&B vendors as West Coast Shaving (http://www.westcoastshaving.com/Sample-Packs_c_1.html) or Bullgoose Shaving (http://www.bullgooseshaving.net/blsapa.html)?

Welcome aboard. There are plenty of people that will speak to wet shaving. In the Speakeasy section, you'll find other conversationalist for your whisky pastime. Now, the important question is that are you a single malt or a blended whisky man?

Generally single malt, preferably an Islay malt. Talisker and Lagavulin are definite favorites. Perhaps you might join me next year at http://www.magma.ca/~chazjo/ the Spirit of Toronto, a little shindig my brother puts on every year at Roy Thomson Hall? I hope it is OK to post the link

So it would seem. I love your sig line. The first concert I went to see was Tom Waits opening for Frank Zappa. Aah, to be in grade 7 again.

+1.

Welcome to B&B. My first pass with my FB is with a setting of 2 and then I increase the setting with each pass. However, on my neck it never gets above 4.
