This is the second thread I've started on spirits this week. I hope people don't get the wrong impression that I'm a booze hound. Anyway, for under $30 USD, what are your preferred rum choices. Mine are as follows:

- Barcelo Gran Anejo
- El Dorado 12 Year

If you like a heavy rum, Pampero Anniversario is a good one. But my favorite is one I found when I was in San Juan: Barrilito Three Star. Unfortunately, it is difficult to find in my area. :thumbup1:

The El Dorado rums are great, especially with cigars. I've also been drinking Pyrat XO Reserve, made by Patron. Those folks usually are known for their tequilas. Pyrat is hand bottled, numbered, and initialed. Good stuff :thumbup1:

I like Lemon Hart demerara rum for around $30. There are two kinds, the 80 proof and the 150 proof, both have a nice flavor but the 150 is really for mixed drinks.

+1 on the Pyrat XO. Every time I drink that rum, the nose reminds of an over-ripe fruit punch. Love it!

+1 for Pyrat XO, though I think it's little more than $30 in my area. Also a big fan of Capt Morgan Private Stock. Both are great on the rocks.

Around these parts I can get El Dorado 15 for around $30. It's the best rum I have ever tasted in the $50 and under category.

Second choice is Santa Teresa 1796.

Rubi Rey is my favorite in Coke. Strange red bottle and it is diamond shaped but it mixes really well with Coke and a slice of lime. About $20 for a fifth.

Sailor Jerry's
Cruzan
Pyrat. I did have a glass of some old expensive pyrat rum that was fantastic. I found the bottle on line and it was a little more than $200. It might be a present for my self one day.

Me and the Captain had a bad sailing experience and we no longer appreciate each others company.

I love rum, it is my go to liquor, but whiskey and scotch are starting to become contenders.

Mt. Gay Eclipse rum, from Barbados. For a little more money, Mt. Gay Sugar Cane Brandy.

I forgot to mention Goslings Black Seal Rum. Buy Goslings ginger beer and make an original dark and stormy. I had one of these a few weeks ago. Maybe one of my favorite drinks. :w00t:

Bacardi 8 Anos

Don't be put off just because Bacardi is a mega brand.

As a native Venezuelan, Pampero Aniversario also gets my vote. It's my go-to rum for everyday drinking. I've also tried Barrilito 3 Star and liked it a lot, but as you said, it isn't an easy find, specially here in Texas.

DE, seeing as you're in Ontario, try some of the Cuban rums at the LCBO. Excellent to drink straight, and make a mojito to die for.

I'll try some this week. Any specific recommendations?
