Ok, now that I've gone through a week of shaves with the B&B razor and brush combo, I'm now going back to me shave fidelity routine and keeping the same lineup for every shave during the week. One small change though, I'm going to keep this same set up until I go though all of the different types of blades that I have access to, so that I will be able to figure out which blades work best for this new razor. Since I have US Personnas, Israeli Personnas, Merkurs, Derbys, Euro Gillettes, and Feathers, this little test should only take 6 weeks.

I really need to stop trying to get 4 shaves out of my Feathers, ended with 2 nicks because of it. 3 passes again, WTG, XTG, 2nd WTG.
Merkur Futur w/ Feather (day 4) - after messing around with it today when getting rid of the feather, I found that I could move the blade holder thing to fix the uneven blade exposure. Now that made me really happy as I've been swearing at Merkur's inability to produce consistent adjustable razors :001_tongu

New Merkur blade
TGC Leatherneck shaving soap
CVS styptic pencil
Publix witch-hazel
I bought the 1957 Tech Red-Tip on eBay last week, and it arrived yesterday afternoon. Only a little bit of crud-cleaning was required. This was my first shave with a DE since 1969, and I found the difference between the DE and my Schick SEs to be distinct.
To be honest, the technique was not appreciably different: most telling was finding a correct blade angle; however, that was easy, knowing what to "feel" for. Only one nick and one minor scrape, but it was a BBS in my normal three passes. And fast! Only 25 minutes, from initial wet-down to final countertop cleanup.
Best of all, the DE/Merkur combo gave me a smooth chin, where the SE team just never quite got it.

edit/answering my own question from DoubleE/Jerry's sticky quote:
Your image has now been uploaded to the gallery. Find your image in the gallery, left click on the picture and it will launch a larger version of your image as well as a few other fields below the image. Find the field that says “BB Image Code”. Highlight the link to the right by clicking and dragging across it, then right click and choose copy. Once you get to the place in your post where you would like the image to appear, right click, and choose paste. And there you have it!

Musgo Real Cream
DD #70 strop
W&B 8/8 blade 1 5/8"
TI Frameback 13/16 (reviewed by Joel)
Genco Tiger 5/8 (rare)
Sta Sharp 5/8 (reviewed by Joel)
Trumper's alum
Trumper's Lime Skin Food
Still can't like the Musgo Real cream as much as I want, and definitely does not smell as freshly cut grass, as some people say. Decent lather, though.
The idea was to compare a few razors. All passed HHT and I had used most of them (except the W&B) for a shave or two already with 9 - 10+ /10 results.
First one out of the gates was the TI. Hm, still not where I want it in sharpness & smoothness. Quickly moved to the W&B. Boy, was it hard to shave with the 8/8 in 1 5/8 length. I'm leaving this one aside. Maybe a 5/8 would work fine for me in this length but the 8/8 did not feel comfortable. It may be a "getting used to it" thing, but I am not willing to spend the time to get used to this. On to the Genco - meh, felt OK but just that and I have come to expect more. Finally - the Sta's second appearance. Felt much better than the others (but certainly worse than its debut) - no wonder, as I had virtually no prep this time and the growth was shorter.
It may be strange, but I find it is much easier and smoother to cut hairs after a week or more without shaving, than hairs on their 3-4 or so day. The longer hairs soften much better with prep and are easier to cut, razor feels smoother
Shave was fairly quick, except that I had to stop and wipe several razors before picking up the next one. No nicks, cuts, or irritation - for which, given the lack of prep and sub-par experience with some blades, I am glad. Limes Skin Food didn't smell as bad as I remembered / expected (I am a CSF fan)
Cheers

DE Shave #2 went well. I changed things up a little this time.
1965 Gillete Slim Adjustable with Derby blade
Proraso Omega Brush (I think I know which end of the boar the bristles came from... :9898: ) Hopefully the smell will go away soon!
100% Glycerin as pre-shave
Proraso Shave Cream
Nivea Extra Soothing ASB
I had a harder time maintaining a good blade angle with the Slim than I did with the HD the night before. I missed the smell of the QED Fresh Lime Soap that I used the night before, but the Proraso (green) Shave Cream lathered easily and lubricated my face very well.
All in all, it was a good shave. My entire face was BBS. My neck was ok.
Turn FM on to oldies from 50's 60's & 70's
Start with a self given clipper cut to the head. I'm down to the "halo" of hair and refuse to pay a barber twenty bucks.
Then:
Hot shower
First Lather with Proraso from tub
First pass with F.S. Schwan Brs. "Grey Steel" str8
Second lather
Second pass, this time with FB with Derby set to 6
Alum block
Let set, then rinse with cold water
Proraso Splash
Proraso ASB
Nomad deoderant with a little Proraso Splash to meld the scent
BBS Face and feeling great!

Andreas custom silvertip badger brush
QED "Wild Rose" shaving soap (hat-tip to Timmy and Charles)
CVS styptic pencil
Publix witch-hazel
What a pleasure! With my second shave using this Gillette DE, I'm beginning to feel the difference that a heavier razor makes, when compared to a much lighter Schick injector SE.
But the real issue, today, is the QED "Wild Rose" shaving soap. What an aroma! 30 quick swirls of my damp shaving brush, using only light pressure on the soap, gave a nice base from which to work. Then a bit of hot tap water and I began lathering in earnest on my face. The soap immediately produced a thick, moist lather, which I then worked into my beard, using my fingertips (kudos to Kyle, for his wonderful posting on proper beard preparation).
A hot towel, followed by a second lathering, and I was ready to go.
Pass #1: WTG, followed by a hot towel and more lathering.
Pass #2: ATG, followed by a hot towel and more lathering.
Pass #3: XTG, followed by a hot towel and more lathering.
There was so much lather remaining on my brush, that I decided to make a fourth pass...
Hot towel, then cold towel, followed by a few touch-ups with my trusty styptic pencil... a cuppa coffee, then a witch-hazel rinse, and I'm Good to Go! (now is where I realize that I should've listened to LeisureGuy and ordered some Thayer's rose-scented witch-hazel)
My only complaints (and trust me, they're my fault) are that I didn't order more than one tub of the QED "Wild Rose" shaving soap, and that none of my three ex-wives are here to feel my BBS face, smell the roses, and take advantage of me.

Bad shave, don't know if it was the blade, the cream or the user but wayyy too many nicks and razor burn to boot. ASB has a nice cooling sensation though, but not all that moisturizing  A sign that I should stick to shaving only WTG & XTG again.

SCS "Very V" EDT
What a pleasure! This was my first shave with this Gillette DE, and it was a wonderful experience. As others in the B&B safety-razor forum have opined, the open-comb design does leave some lather behind, enabling me to make a given directional pass into a "multi-pass".
The blade, which although advertised on eBay as an Israeli Personna, has stirred some debate on the B&B shopping forum (here is a link (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=15521) to it). It certainly gave a good account of itself on its first use; but repeated shaves will tell "the rest of the story" [apologies to Paul Harvey].
But the real issue, today, is the SCS "Very V" shaving cream. What a heady aroma! Unlike shaving soap, I only needed a little bit on the tip of my brush, which gave a nice base from which to work. Then a bit of hot tap water and I began lathering in earnest on my face. The cream immediately produced a thick, moist lather. In a few minutes, I was ready.
Friends, this was -- bar none -- the best shave I've ever given myself. I felt a synergy which had previously eluded me. Together with the Holy Trinity of razor, blade, and lather, I took my own advice from a posting (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showpost.php?p=194635&postcount=7) I made yesterday, and shaved deliberately and methodically. This made all the difference.
I could feel the razor guiding me to the correct blade-face angle; I could hear the snick, snick, snick as the blade cut through a two-day growth of stubble (rendered "fat and moist" by Sue's "Very V" shaving cream").
I made my regular three passes, and had more than enough lather remaining on the brush to make a fourth pass (XTG and ATG) on my troublesome chin. It paid-off.
A hot, then cold rinse, a happy splash of witch-hazel, and I was ready for the coup de grace -- Sue's "Very V" EDT. All I can say is "Oy, do I smell good!"

Not my best shave - a little rough back around the earlobe/jawbone/neck area - but I'll give it an 8.5
funny, I think my single best shave came from an Israeli blade, and I get the most reliable results from Derbys, but when I have a particularly good day the Feathers are without a doubt the top shelf. The Swedish Gillettes are vaguely unremarkable for me - they're extremely sharp, but they just don't seem to glide as well as some of the others.

Not exactly.
Corvettes don't normally get road time around here during the winter, but this one had to be moved. He just bought it a couple of weeks ago, stored it in my building and then I got a tenant to occupy the shop. I thought I would be following in his truck like when he picked it up, so you can imagine my surprise when he offered to let me drive his new $80K car. He even let me "get up on it" and all I can say is it is powerful!

I've used the B&B Standard Ebony for a week straight, and a B&B Finest Ebony for a week straight. Today was my first day back to my SR 3124... and THIS is the definition of dense knot and luxurious performance. Don't get me wrong... both my B&B brushes are winners, keepers, and will be part of my standard rotation. But like some of the other feedback (albeit a minority) on the B&B brushes, they're quite a bit less dense and floppier than I thought they would/should be. I guess I built them up too much in my mind in anticipation?? Regardless, they're both great, GREAT brushes.

How does that coffee pot operate? Does it make a good cuppa?
Looks like you had quite a full day!
Water goes in the bottom, coffee in the top, as water turns to steam it pushes the liquid water up through a tube to the top. When it stops rising let it brew another minute or so, then remove from heat and the process reverses. Vacuum draws the brewed coffee back into the bottom through a metal filter. Set the top part in the sink and pour a fantastically rich cuppa-jo. Taste is similar to a french press but much easier to clean and take care of on a daily basis.

I made a boo-boo, and melted the shaving-soap puck in my microwave, while placed in a wooden soap bowl. Glycerin-based soaps work well with this; shea-butter ones do not. As a result, and my fault entirely, the lather was not good, and I had to rebuild the lather on the brush, prior to each pass.
However, the shave was close to BBS (needed more than a little "blade buffing" after Pass #3; no "razor burn" or irritation, but one small nick on my upper lip.
SCS Sue's "Bay Rum with a Twist" EDT is amazingly astringent, even after my having applied witch-hazel to my face, and the aroma is powerful and lingering.

Those are great photos!
I wonder when they started making Aqua Velva? I guess it goes back to at least '49.
Here's a link to an ineresting article about Aqua Velva:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aqua_Velva
Unfortunatley it does not say the year they introduced the stuff.
In an earlier post I asked "what is the most conservative fragrance a man can wear" - a couple of replies suggested Aqua Velva. After seeing those pics and reading the article from Wikipedia I think it fits the bill.
