I'd like to buy a nice straight on the BST very very soon, but it is not shave ready.
besides buying all the honing stuff myself, how do I go about getting this into shave ready status?
plus i understand i'll need to acquire some sort of a strop from the research I've done here, at SRP, the coticule website, etc...
I am trying to keep the honing/stropping under control at the moment to make sure I actually enjoy the shave w/ a straight
any help would be appreciated. thanks

First, ask the seller if he is willing to make the razor shave ready, an extra $20 bucks or so seems to be the going rate.
also, check out razors on the BST that are shave ready; thisGriffin (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=153547) looks like a nice blade and is being sold from a reputable fellow.
and Here are a couple others (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=153916) for sale.

You can send the razor to one of the honemeisters on here or SRP. and yes you will need a strop. A cheap one is good for a first timer, you don't want to buy an expensive one just to nick it until you have some practice.
PM Sent. I can sell you a very lightly used Filly Strop for $15 including shipping. Or, you can buy one new here:

+1 on Larry, he is an amazingly helpful guy especially for all noobs (like me), and his honing abilities are quite impressive.

His honing prices are also very reasonable ($13), but any straight you buy from him will already be honed by him, so it is ensured of being shave ready.
By the way, I wouldn't even think of trying to hone my first straight myself. You have no experience with which to know how a shave ready straight should feel; how do you know what sharp enough is, if you have never shaved with a straight before?
Your experience will be much better if you purchase a straight that is honed by a reputable individual, as then you don't have to worry about the "is it sharp enough" question.
