Gents,
I have given up being nice. When Spring sprang my goal was to get back on the exercise wagon. The cold, unforgiving winter had frozen my will although I had maintained my weight through the holiday season I was planning to get back to running and hopefully make some more headway towards a more appropriate weight. Inertia is the name of the game and the cold spring weather didn't entice me outside at 6am. In fact, my level weight started to climb. But I am done with excuses, the only thing I seem to respond to is threats!

So here goes, I have given up wet shaving until I shed 10 pounds! The picture below may shock and appall you. It may not be SFW. But it attests my commitment. No matter how hot the summer gets, no matter how itchy, the beard stays until the scale says I've lost 10 pounds. Period.

I've entered the data into my Wii Fit and I'm tracking everything weekly. I plan to post my progress in the thread as I approach my goal.

Man do I miss my brushes, razors, soaps, and aftershaves!

That's a worthy goal, man. Best wishes to you.

You ought to give up sex, too. That is a good motive. Any favorite TV shows? Ax them. You need to suffer more.

It seems like with some overweight people, it's the opposite; they use a beard to hide their face, so, in some cases it would be better to shave it off in order to "see yourself how you really are" and get motivation that way.

Anyway, good luck!

A beard like that isn't going to be that itchy for long, you need to grow the beard that occupies the whole neck that is lower than chin/jaw line and clean above. I don't know what's it's techincally called, but I know what I call it and i want to keep it rated G.

The NECKBEARD!

To OP: Good luck with your goals. Remember that you won't see any major differences with just exercise alone--portion control is very important as well. At least, it was for me. I've lost a total of 37 pounds since I was at my heaviest.

If I started growing a beard I wouldn't have to worry about sex. The wife hates them and would cut me off for sure.
Good luck in your goal.

By the way, I can't believe there's a website that advocates growing a beard. Yuck.

There isn't anything yucky about a beard.

I disagree, and X gets the square!

You have your opinion, and I have mine. I think most people who wear beards look ridiculous, and that the vast majority of them look a lot better if and when they shave it off. That's my OPINION. It can't be wrong FOR ME, anymore than I can be wrong when I say that I don't like olives. Some people love olives, but I can't stand 'em.

If you like a beard, grow a beard. I don't have to like it.

I wouldn't ever deprive myself of shaving because I enjoy it too much.

I would treat it as a reward for a great day and let myself feel even better.

cOry has got that portion thing right. If it doesn't go in it, doesn't go on
One sure way to lose weight is to not eat until your stomach "growls".

I just thought if the OP was going to give up shaving to punish himself, he might think of other nice experiences to deprive himself of.

I think a beard like that is called a 'Full Set'. Certainly round these parts it would be called that: Mutton chops, Moustache and Goatee = Full Set.

Think yourself lucky you're not Diabetic. I was 14st and became Diabetic pretty much overnight and in 6weeks I dropped just over half my body weight to 6 1/2st. Now that's some serious weightloss! :yikes:

Luckily I got it sorted and can now eat like a pig and not put on an ounce.

Don't give up sex Its great exercise. Find some one who also has to lose weight and place a wager on who can shed it the fastest, us men are naturally competitive.
