im looking to pick up a decent middle of the road badger brush, any ideas? or is it better to just dish out the cash for a high end brush?
You know, Id really say read up on the brush forum here and read what sort of characteristics you think you might like. You can find excellent shavebrushes for $50 and up. I am getting a semi-custom brush from eliterazors.com, using the Golden Nib (TGN) brush heads, and it is a very attractive price. Wood handle, set a little lower into the handle so that I can avoid some floppiness. Many Rooneys and Shavemacs that can be great brushes less than $100 and for a little more, some Simpsons. IF you have never used a badger brush, people like to recommend Edwin Jagger best badger brushes and the English Shaving Company has free shipping and great prices until June 16th. So maybe tell us what you think you might like and we can narrow it down

Edwin Jagger makes a very good brush. You might also want to look at a Rooney 1-1 or a 3-1.

Check out the Omega 63185 Pure Badger Shaving Brush. I bought one from westcoastshaving and like it a lot. I don't know if it's a middle of the road or not, but it's quite nifty for me. Enjoy and thanks for sharing!

Also check out the Simpson Col. 2XL
It is Best Badger and probably less than $70. It is a great soap brush.

Well, first it depends on one's definition of "middle of the road". I'm pretty cheap, so my middle of the road might be someone else's gutter.
I'd check out the Omega line of brushes (http://www.shoeboxshaveshop.com/boar.html); good quality Italian construction, reasonable prices, solid value.
... or is it better to just dish out the cash for a high end brush?
I'd say it would certainly be better for the vendor! Refer to the "I'm pretty cheap" comment above. IMHO, "high end" brushes are strictly an indulgence. If you've got the wallet for it, then hey, go for it! Personally, I'd have a hard time spending the kind of money on a brush that a lot of guys around here do, even if I could afford it! :blushing:

Do you mostly bowl lather, face lather, using soaps or creams, or all of the above?
What's your budget?
