On my face that is.
After receiving my new hone yesterday, and playing around, I decided to test the results of my sharpening attempt this morning. Happily, I covered my whole face without divots, or slashes. I will admit that I needed to go over the chin and jawline afterward with a DE. The hard to shave patches on my neck were nice and smooth though. I still need more practice at sharpening, as it sounded more like scraping a hog than shaving (you country boys will know what I am talking about). All of the information on this group has made a huge difference in the steepness of my learning curve. I am also looking forward to using a "real strop" instead of one of my leather guitar straps:rolleyes:
After shaving I used an alum block (ammonium alum) and there was nearly no sting. Does anyone else feel the need to rinse the alum off after leaving it on to do it's work for couple of minutes? I need to wash it off or I feel like I have a dirty face (yuck). I followed the rinse with Proraso ASB, and my now face feels wonderful.
Best Regards, Ken.

Good for you. I always rinse off the alum and then splash a little witch hazel on which I also rinse off. I love the alum and I think it's one of the things that make the most difference from how I used to shave... but I can't imagine leaving it on without rinsing.

heh, I've got some really flexy flyers that sound like rain on a tin roof. Freaked me out for awhile, though I've come to enjoy the sound, plus you can tell alot about what's going on just from the sound. Like when things get quiet it's time to reach for the styptic :-(

I never wash the alum off. I just use plenty of witch hazel after the alum step.

Congratulations on the shave.
I always rinse the alum off either with water or plenty of witch hazel.
