First of, I am having a blast shaving. And I am finally getting a better shave and my skin is much better. Oh, all those years of being in the dark with the electric shaver :w00t:

Here's my setup:

Mergress with Feathers
Simpson PJ2 Super
Trumpers rose soap or Penn's BB cream
Nivea aftershave

I have several shavers I've tried. I'm a currently enjoying my Mergress and '48SS. My Slim was not a favorite.

The only brush (I don't include my Tweezerman) I've used was a PJ2 in Super. It was a major improvement over the Tweez!!

I have settle on a Trumpers Rose soap, and Penn's BB shave cream for now. I get much better lather from the Penn's. I am guessing because it is a cream.

I've used Derbys, 7 O'Clocks and one Feather. I love the Feathers now. This will be my go to with the Mergress.

Now, let's talk about some areas I'd like to improve. I feel I am lathering properly, but I just do not get a real thick lather. I face lather after the shower. The brush soaks in hot water while I'm scrubbing and singing (TMI). It is 1/8" thick and covers well, but nothing like in the videos and pics on here. The Trumpers is just fairly flat. Is this the soap? Brush? Combination? I do not have any troubles getting thick lather from the Penn's cream.

Any suggestions for improvements/equipment? I'm wondering if a fan type brush would be better....

fwiw, the only soap i can get "canned goo" style lather with is Arko. The rest are much less fluffy, yet all varieties I make are equally good in terms of shave quality.

It doesn't have to be fluffy as long as it's slick enough and "cushiony" enough. The proof is in the shave. If you are getting nice, irritation free DFS shaves or better, you're on the right track. Sounds like your products are good enough to me.

That's why I prefer creams. I never fail to get a rich, luxurious lather. :001_smile

My skin get dry as well. Maybe I'll do a shift to the creamy side in the future.

I'm still curious about some different brushes, but then again, aren't we all!!!!

Can you post a picture of "flat lather"?

Glad to hear you're enjoying the Feather's. But watch out they don't bite back.

As for your lather, many videos, IMHO, exaggerate the lather on the face. We're not making a lemon meringue pie. If it is slick, and your shaves are enjoyable, you're doing fine.
