Hello guys, well i started wet shaving a few weeks ago, eight weeks exactly, and i've been having the best shaving experience of my life, my current gear is:

a muhle r89 safety razor and a gillette slim razor
a sample pack of blades that i have tested and include 7 brands(feather, red personnas, crystal, derby, iridium, astra and 7 o'clock sharp edge(yellow).
a mitchell's wool fat shaving soap
and finally a cheap no branded boar hair shaving soap

so as you can see, at least for a newbie like myself everything seems to be good, except by the brush, that lose a lot of hairs everytime i use it, and i haven't been able to develop a good lather with the MWF, so the thing is that i need to upgrade the brush, now; i see two options for me, locally i can get a horse hair brush made by 3 claveles that i think is made in spain, for about 18 USD, or i can save a little more money and get an edwin jagger best badger medium size for 32 usd shipped, so, i wonder if you can help to choose, because i couldn't find much info about horse hair brushes. So please help me!!

Go ahead with the EJ BBB - that's my first recommendation. That is an excellent brush, and you may never need another, save for preference. I'm not sure you could spend a better $32 on badger. Some gents would say buy a nicer boar, like a Semogue 1305 or 2000 from VintageScent.com

As for horse, I don't know about the one you mentioned, but there are some good ones made by Vie Long for example. They fetch a little more. Check BullGooseShaving.net for some.

I would look at a tweezerman pure badger brush. I have been very pleased with mine.

I would vote for the EJ Medium best badger or the Semogue 830 boar. Both about the same price. I prefer my 830, but with everything YMMV.

If you face lather I would change my vote to the semogue 620

+1 on the EJ Medium BBB. I have been wet shaving for about 4 months now. I started with the Tweezerman and upgraded to the EJ Medium BBB and I am very pleased with my purchase. I face lather and I use soap.

It’s not uncommon for drugstore/cheap boar brushes to lose hair for a several months. Is the trouble making lather the brush or technique?
