Soon to be a newbie here, as I've now received my gear from Alfred (he was excellent recommending/confirming my arsenal).
I've had a great time perusing all the posted knowledge base and I'm excited to get started tomorrow morning.
I've viewed most of Mantis' 'starter' videos, and spent considerable time going through Kyle's prep thread.

I look forward to the venture of DE shaving - which I'm sad to say I only recently learned about.

Here's the gear I'm going to use in the morning...

Merkur HD
A whole bunch of various blade samples
Taylor of Bond Street sandlestone shaving cream.
A very nice Slivertip classic brush.

Let the games begin... :001_cool:

I can't believe the frustration I'm having, and I can only blame all YOU DE proponents.

I've been shaving for 30years [mostly wet, but a had a few forays with electric:blushing:)] and only NOW I've experienced a DE shave.

I have truly have just now enjoyed shaving for the very first time. Yes my 1st time with the DE wasn't perfect (no nicks or anything, because I was very slow and extra cautious), but damn - It's the best shaving experience I've ever had.

So here's my beef! Why haven't I heard about this before???!??

Sure I can accept most of the blame for not knowing this before, but surely we (sorry, but this newbie is considering himself one of you now :biggrin1:) need to rescue the rest of the non-DE shavers out there that continue to struggle through the burden of shaving.

I hope I'm not going to be like a religious zealot about this... but right now I think may be about DE :biggrin1:

I can't wait for tomorrow... maybe I can shave this afternoon?!?!

So back to the shave...
I followed Kyle's prep for the most part (forgot the finger massaging step prior to the hot towel in all my excitement). I believe I got the lather quite well for my first time, but I had challenges with keeping the razor 'angle' exact. I'm positive I'll have that tackled in a few more attempts.
I did WTG (to the best of my knowledge... as my beard although relatively light is all over the place), and once XTG. I was very tempted to do a second XTG, but wanted to take the first time slow.

All in all, I loved the experience!!!!!

I don't want to be a fanatic either but I have already turned 3 people on to shaving the right way.

Shaving doesn't have to be a chore!
You can even get a BETTER shave this way!
