Merkur HD revisited...Wow!

The first DE I ever shaved with was a borrowed Merkur HD, and it was something of a disaster. I didn't want to attribute it to lack of experience, so I chose to blame the razor instead. Now, months later, I decided to try out the old HD once more, and I was blown away! It's a great razor. I got perhaps my closes shave to date. I guess it just proves the old saying "blame the Indian, not the arrow." This isn't the first time I've revisited an old product that I initially didn't like, only to have my first impression completely changed.

The only razor in my rotation is an HD... so I guess I don't have a rotation after all.

What blade did you use?

I have a 38c , same head as 34 c. Best shave I have ever had!!!

1000% agreed. My 38c has served me well. I had some trouble swallowing the initial cost, but now I adore my Merkur, and shaving has become a wonderful time of day for me (I started out with this razor about 4 or 5 months ago, it helped me take the plunge into wetshaving).

An excellent point! The HD is still the razor I use more often than any other (the Gillette NEW is next). Good for you for thinking to give it another go.

This goes to show that it pays to revisit a razor, blade, etc. again after some time has passed. Sometimes, it's still:mad3:, but then other times, it's:thumbup:

+1 Excellent point, heck, I do the same thing even with shave soaps. The first time you use it you hate it and then a couple of years later you try it again and you really like it. Life is funny that way.:lol:

I've been shaving for 19 years and the Merkur HD is still the best razor I've ever used. I buy other DE's from time to time, try them for a while, then go back to the HD.
