Brian, I won't be at the convention, but might be able to meet up that Sunday or Monday. If that works, perhaps we could pick a date/time and rename the thread "DC area meet-up" (or something more creative ).

Great. You let me know what conference time you have free -- Sun or Mon evening, etc. I'm flexible those days. :thumbup1:
Who else might be able to make it?...

DC in July? Isn't that the time of year when Blue Star blades rust in their packaging?
Maybe I'll send some converts your way.

I am game, depending on the weather. I work in HVAC, so the hotter it is, the less likely I'll be there :)

Hey, the heat is what pays for this shaving hobby. I want it 110 and humid from now until Labor Day. Then *bam* right into 20 and windy. Come March 15th, switch back.
That would mean all the soaps and razors I could ever want!!! http://www.stagepin.net/images/smilies/bouncesmile.gif

I'll definitely come if I can. It's only 2.5 hrs for me. That's pretty doable on my bike. Once it gets set in stone, let me know so I can RO at work.

Now it's starting to look like a party! We're looking at either the evening of Sunday July 11th or Monday July 12th.
Who has a preference between those evenings?

Gruder, I'm in for July 11 or 12th, preferably the 11th! I live in Waldorf, we're practically neighbors!

Heck, I was in Waldorf earlier this afternoon. :biggrin1: I have a hunch that the 11th will be a preference for many, but we'll keep asking, just in case. The list grows!

Hmmm, two (potentially) moderators and a former moderator along with some other members? Sounds like fun! Let me check my calendar.

There is always the Brickskellar...kind of a dive but an amazing beer selection...
Look it up here (http://www.lovethebeer.com/brickskeller.html)

Great minds, Chris -- I was thinking exactly along those lines -- any thought whether that or RFD will be the better bet on a Sunday evening?

Never been to RFD...heard good things but I couldn't tell you one way or the other unfortunately.
Both have hours during our target period so really its down to quality. Is RFD a "classier" joint? Last time I was in Brickskellar, my wife called it a dumpy college bar...I disagreed...but it was looking a bit run down. Again, the beer selection makes up for any lack of aesthetics IMHO :001_smile

Alright folks, location named:
If we're gonna' do this thing, let's do it right. We're headed to the legendary Brickskeller!
The Brickskeller is located just west of Dupont Circle at 1523 22nd St NW, and is known for having one of the most fantastic beer lists in the known universe, with over 1000 bottled beers available on any given night. More here: http://www.lovethebeer.com/brickskeller.html
I'm going to reserve a table for us at 7:30 under "Badger", but to do so, I'd love to get a more firm idea of headcount. So, if you're in, please let us know in this thread. Know other area B&Bers who might be interested? Send 'em a heads up -- the more the merrier!

The Knize

I will be there. If you need my "real name," cell phone numbers, etc., let me know via PM! Actually, maybe exchanging cell phone numbers is never a bad idea. People may get lost or something.
7:30 pm Eastern time, Sunday, July 11, 2010, Brickskeller, 1523 22nd St, NW, Washington, D.C.
Should we wear some identifying attire or something? I suppose just ask for the "Badger" table. You know the old Rodney Dangerfield joke right:
"I never get no respect,
Was supposed to have a blind date the other night with 'Sally.' Arranged to her at a bar. I went in and walked up to this beautiful blonde sitting at the bar:
'Are you Sally?'
'Are you Rodney?'
'Sure am!'
'Then I'm not Sally!'"
So, "is this the Badger table? . . . " :001_smile

Thanks to everyone for coming, and to Brian for both the idea and the generosity. There's something powerful in the ability of B&B to unite folks who would have no reason to meet one another otherwise. I'll hold fond memories of last night for quite some time.
