I recently bought this off the bay and was wondering if someone could help me ID it. The closest thing I've found to it yet is the 1920's Gold Old Type. Under the head it says "Importe D'Angleterre" and it has the Gillette stamp. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Wow thank you Achim! Were these given to French soldiers during the second world war? Is there anyway to date them?

Haha I guess so, but I was referring to a more precise year compared to the date of 1930's and 40's.

YOU CAN FIGURE , germany invaded france(and belgium, luxemberg) ifrom 1914 1o 1918 in ww1. so your razor didnt go back to that date....Then in 1939 to 1940 ww2 occured, so it must been made btween 1939 to 1940 while the french service troops fought against germany for a whole year from 1939 to 1940.

WW 2 was between 1939 - 1945.
Edit: Not even a year was it Alex? The French surrendered mid 1940.

I guess there's really no way of dating it more specifically due to the fact that it was issued to all military personnel during the 1930's and 40's (including years outside of war). 30's and 40's will have to do!

reallyt has to be dated from the 1940's if it was a french service razor, the french 1st fought the war/ww1 too early and the tech wasnt out yet, so it had to be a 1940 and up razor(ww2 139 to 1940 frensh vs. germany)

Right, but I'm sure the French had men enlisted in their army during the 1930's, hence the razor being given to them during this period (before the war also).

there were free french forces stationed in the uk after france surrendered to germany, as well as fighting in north africa with other allied forces; so it's possible the razors were part of their gear and supplied by gillette to them as they did to the british and american forces.

I'm not much help with dating the razor...but I have the exact razor in the exact same box as shown by Achim...it has a regular spot in my DE rotation (I alternate weekly with my straights) and provides a superb, smooth and effortless shave. It's a lovely piece.

just a thought- if it was intended for french servcie men; it's interesting that it's a new, whereas the amercan and british forces received techs.

I can't see the above pics to compare, but I can say that I shaved with this wonder a couple of times and it performs beautifully. Close shave, little to no irritation, fine shaver in my opinion.
