View Full Version : Favorite Shave Cream?

As always, I order things that I see on here since i'm still learning about wet shaving. I have me some Gemtleman Best "Signature Series" Shave Cream coming and some Proraso Shave Cream along with some Geo F Trumpers Skin Food ( I used a sample bottle of this stuff and liked it) whats your thoughts on this stuff? I usually buy stuff and decide for myself weather I like it or not but just thought you might wanted to discuss shave cream. What are some other good shave creams? What are your favorites? I have some T&H Trafalgar i'm using now, I love the smell but i'm still learning how to make a good lather (I always tend to use too much). Your Thoughts?

I find that I get hands down the best performance out of prorasso. That being said, I'm also quite fond of creams from the 3Ts and feel they all perfrom well so pick them based on scent. T&H Graphton & 1805, Trumper's Lime and TOBS Mr. Taylor and Almond are my favorite scents. Kiss my Face is also a great cream at a very low price. You're going to get lots of different opinions, but that's part of the fun of this community.

Here is my current list of top ten favourite shaving creams:
Castle Forbes Lavender Oil;
Castle Forbes Lime Oil;
Truefitt & Hill Ultimate Comfort;
Truefitt & Hill 1805;
Truefitt & Hill West Indian Limes;
Trumpers Coconut Oil;
Trumpers Extract of Limes;
Trumpers Rose;
Proraso Green;
Speick.
I get amazing shaves with these creams listed here.
Regarding brands, I believe Castle Forbes is actually "a cut above" compared to everything else.
T&H and GFT share second spot.
Proraso, my beloved Proraso, is the sole low cost cream that can compete with the prestigious British shaving creams.
Obviously, my opinion.

I'm much more of a soap guy, but I really love my tube of C.O. Bigelow. Great stuff.
I might pick up another cream shortly - I've been planning a trip to Oh!UBeauty shortly - maybe this weekend. I'd like to grab one of the TTT creams to fool with.

Proraso and Taylors Rose for me.
Two of my top three. The other is Molle - fantastic shave and post shave feel once you muscle past the scent. I also like Musgo, but wife inexplicably became turned off to the scent - she used to love it.

Proraso, the performance is great and the scent reminds me of 'life in Tuscany'. What's better than shaving in Chianti, while looking out an open window unto the countryside.:001_smile

At this point of my journey, as far as creams go, I'd be happy shaving with nothing but these three from now on. Having said that, I have enjoyed many other fine creams, and there are many I have not tried.

Saint Charles Shave. The lather is very lubricating for me and I find I get slightly better results than Proraso which is also great.

The SCS creams I find are a bit of a lathering problem child. Possible to get good shaves but much more finicky to work up IMO.
Castle Forbes, T&H, Salter and D.R. Harris make my favorite creams so far. KMF and Godrej for smaller budgets.

Another for Proraso.
I absolutely love menthol and I've bought creams two or three times the price of Proraso and they weren't as good. If I was having my last shave before armageddon I might want something different, but Proraso is a daily shaver for life.

I barely use creams anymore, but in order of preference -
1. Kiehl's Lite Flite - this one does it all for me - excellent lather, great feedback with a straight, perfectly moisturizing summer or winter, and the camphor + menthol feel like I've used a bracing aftershave splash after. The scent is a bit medicinal in the tub, but quite neutral during/after the actual shave.
2. Trumper's Coconut - the scent is very nice, and the performance is up there too;
3. J.M. Fraser's Original - only used it twice, but I was pleasantly surprised at how well it performed, even when compared to the higher end creams out there.

I haven't tried that many creams, but the new Coate's (tea-tree & rosemary) is a cut above Taylor's and Art of Shaving. The only the only other product that comes close is MWF soap, which I find is better. it's all just my opinion.
